The Kernel is crashing,

that line is a rejection (7F) from the Os, not the kernel ...

That is a response from a Kernel Version request, that failure response came from the OS, if the kernel was running it would have returned the kernel version, the fact the Os responded with a failure says the kernel crashed.

This also tells me this is a DLC (Data Link Controller) coding issue because the kernel response is to stupid simple to be the cause.

Oh lord ... i was hoping it would be easy. Is there anything i can do at the moment? I'm watching youtube videos of how to turn a bin into an xdf and mind is literally blown. Not sure if i'm gonna be able to do that. Also I'm not sure if it matters but the radio that's in there had a theft locked on it because the BCM it needed to be replaced. So I got one from the Junkyard And then I had to get a PCM(same donor car) in order for the car to start. The radio became theft locked so instead of waiting for my VCX Nano to come in the mail(to unlock it) I just decided rip the eprom chip off inside the radio so it worked. I planned on a aftermarket anyways. I ran pcm hammer and it started talking about keys. GM has passlock or vats and a bad ignition switch due to heavy keys makes the car go into a 10min relearn process. To stop it i added a 22k resistor in line with the bcm from the ignition switch. So i decided to get the ignition from the junkyard to fix mine and to see if getting rid of that resistor fixed something in the gm passlock/vats and maybe pcm hammer...i also grabbed the radio. The radio was in worse shape than mine but it has a theft lock eeprom. when taking the ignition out you have to keep the original radio plugged in. so thats what i did.

....so the car and i have been a mess. the old bcm(which got wet and corroded) could of been causing the 10min security relearn occasionally or was the ignition switch. Then the bcm got worse and wouldnt unlock doors, would pop the trunk when the battery was hooked up,,door chiming closed. I think im just venting at this point... i got my old pcm i can send you. I would like to use it but the vin is different from my bcm now. i was gonna swap eeproms and got a hot air desolder station to do it...i got the old eeprom off but was too scared to put it on the new one...so i got the matching pcm instead.

Attempting in the car is pretty much useless, build yourself a bench harness following this schematic,

It likely won't help you in this specific case, however I'm pretty sure it would still fail in car because of other devices on the bus, some modules just won't shut up.

The switch is important, so are the ground locations.

You'll also need a 12 volt (up to about 15 or 16 volts is good) 1a or larger power supply that produces clean power, PWM type Cell chargers will not work.

I use network router/switch/hub supplies, they are typically pretty clean, you can also use a fresh charged battery, it's good to test the setup that way for sure!

ok ...i tried it with my old pcm and i got the 6 bytes instead of 4...so im gonna pull my ecu out the car.
