VS V6 EEPROM CHIP

Post by UrbTuning »

:typist: I'm wondering if there's another way to get flash based tuning / RTT for the delco VS memcal eeprom chip besides nvram or any tips or tricks for modifying the memcal / ecu

hey im new to memcal but have tuned j3 chips for fords but my commodore vs v6 ecotec got nitrous and turbo kit so i have spent months searching and because of a certain enviromental protection group that shall not be named is fighting to make it illegal to modafiy stock ecus in america only currently. and i dont wana spend 10k on a haltech but the memcal program tool is called (GQ-4x4 programer) (EBAY LIKE 120$) the only thing is if u have a vs or vt ecu and memcal u will need a MEMCAL ADAPTOR so the programer can plug to the memcal but live tuning IS NOT AVALABLE like this u have to remove memcal from ecu to change something it can be a pain but the ALDL CABLE they offer here at pcmhacking can provide a recorded data spreadsheet from a drive u can cross reffrence to aid with tuning but my sugestion is buy a WBO2 set from TI PERFORMANCE but honestly in the end u will spend the same $$$ as going with a NVRAM eather way 5-700$ gets u tuning live or bench so its up to your prefrence
HOPE THIS HELPS

The nvram board plugs in where the memcal goes

I think this thread is a good starting point, but have a look in the FAQ area (green question mark up near top right) and have a look at the guides there. That might give you a starting point to what is what. The software we provide can run off a eprom/eeprom/nvram but you need the nvram for real time tuneing, otherwise you need the hardware to erase and write the eprom/eeprom after each time you have changed the calibration.

Ah yep I definitely don't want to keep erasing ect ect every time so I guess it's the eeprom/nvram choice for me front what I read you can use the AT29C010A eeprom and the AM29FO10B as a direct fit reflash able eeprom conversion from the standard memcal but I wonder if many have tested the capability of the AT and AM chips

Most of them are compatible. They need to be about 100ns or quicker (which is the norm), 5v, and pin compatible with the original chip. Many people make up a small adapter board on vero board so they plug the memcal in to an adapter and the adapter in to their programmer to electronic erase. That is definatly your best no to no cost option depending if you have the programmer and parts laying around. Hardest part is finding chips, those type of chips have gotten a lot harder to find and bad clones are in the marketplace. I have been ripped off before with ebay sellers who sent a package of several chips, had a real one in the end as thats what most people test first, and the rest of the carrier were repackaged write once and failed to erase. Sometimes you are better off with recycled chip pulls than new, but always buyer beware, check the sellers reputation and any other kind of red flags from the listing.

Would a Arduino nano with a Arduino ATmega328p ide and a AT29C010A chip work?

I wonder if it's some what possible to used a old VY wiring loom and VY ECU in a VS like some how wire it up to be able to be used on a VS ? As I've got those parts just in a box in the shed so I wonder if anyone's tried that and actually been successful 🤔
