Newb needs help with ram dump

Post by Big ‘G’ »

Trying to dump ram of p01x using pcm hammer 21.2. Vpw explorer Obdx pro vx. Every thing connects ok. Push dump ram button but no indications
The saved ram log contains 0 bytes. Doing some thing wrong. Engine need to be running or just key on?

Key-on, engine-off should be fine. You've probably found a bug... The VpwExplorer app is basically just a place to put half-baked ideas that didn't make it into the flasher or logger, so it isn't well tested. I'd honestly forgotten that the ram dump feature existed anywhere. :)

Does the Debug tab have any clues about what went wrong?

Tried again today same results, debug log shows received an unexpected response
So tried on different pcm and every thing worked correctly. Still testing but looks like first pcm may be bricked
Tried to write different os using pcm hammer but checksums would continually come back different so I eventually
Canceled Now I can’t communicate with the pcm. Anyways thanks for your help

The ram log is saved as .bin file, unsure as to how to view file. Tried logger and universal patcher with no luck, any suggestions?

What goal did you have in mind when for the RAM dump? Or was it just for curiosity?
The feature was intended to help with reverse engineering, by loading the file into IDA Pro or Ghidra. I'm not sure what else would be useful for, but I'm curious.

My thought is to compare a low res bin ram dump to a high res bin dump to see if I could locate the configuration and update bits for the cic chip. If successful then maybe I can figure out coil overs for a 6 cyl similar to what turbo v6 has done
