VP Wiring Loom.
I'm installing an L27 V6 Motor and TH700 Auto in a Triumph TR7, and have found the following.
The engine is from a VR with the CAS, snd it has been retro-fitted with an ECU type "BAAM", which
I'm told is from a VP, maybe to avoid the VATS issue, as It had been previously fitted to a VK Commodore.
The loom that has been stitched in appears to be from a Manual Car, probably VP, with no provision
for the CAS, Transmission Speed Signal input or Torque Converter lock-up connection to the gearbox.
Will it be OK to run like this without the Converter lock-up, or will it cause other issues.
Are Auto and Manual VP ECU's the same, and, if so, does it need to be set for Auto or Manual.

Manual and auto harnesses are the same, they suit what ever trans by plugging in a patch loom into the main body harness over the trans tunnel which then the signals are relayed to the engine harness near the ECU via the 8 pin plug, the VSS goes to the dash first, but can go direct to ECU as long as you adjust the PPK in the tune to suit the loss of the dash's divider logic. Normally 1250 for dash first, or 6400 for direct (dash has divide by 5 logic). Of course, diff ratios and tyre sizes will change this a bit, but easy to work out if you have the maths or just a good GPS to adjust to by trial and error.
So you need to just get one of these patch looms for auto which should be a dime a dozen (manual ones are rare). And wire that up with the 8 pin plug, unless someone has already hacked it up.
Also to consider, this patch loom either opens or grounds a pin to tell the ECU if it's in auto or manual mode.
Your car I guess won't have the holden VN/VP body harness, hence why you'll need to work out the pins and wire the patch harness accordingly.
VN/VP do not have VATS. They run as per any pre security car in a conversion scenario.

According to the Wiring Diagram I have, the VSS should have a BLA, P/BLU and V/WH wires, but mine has Black, Red and Green.
It feels like there is a magnet inside whem I rotate it, and the PK/BLU wire comes from the ignition switch, so hopefully it is
a Hall Sensor.The signal is passed through the cluster (which I don't have), so I will have to connect it directly to Pin A10 and change
the PPK as you said.
Do you know what signal it produces, and if it is a VR producing a sine wave, will will the ECU Pin A10 Accept a Sine Wave from a VR,
or is it converted to a Square Wave by the cluster.
The colours of the wires have me worried, and I don't want to connect any power to it in case the smoke gets out.

I think VN VP VR and VS manuals all use a 3 wire hall effect speed sensor unit. The car will still run without the signal. I have no knowledge of the patch for running the t700 lockup converter.
The ECU's are all basically the same for manual and auto uo to VR where the trans used another ECU. The VR VS ECU has higher data speed but still works the same just uses a different data out terminal.

Thanks for that...I had hoped it was a Hall Sensor.
I'm not having any luck sourcing an Auto Box loom, so may have to try making one.
This is how I think it looks:

ECU Pin A7 switches a relay to supply the Plug on the side of the box, which passes 2 Brown Wires and 1 black wire into the box.
One Brown wire supplies a switch and daisy chains to another switch at the rear of the box, and the other brown
wire and the black wire supplies the large solenoid at the front of the box. It looks like the black wire is a ground
that exits the box via the plug and grounds to the motor or chassis.
Is this correct, and can anybody who was done this or has experience with it please correct me where I'm wrong.

I think I've got the wiring worked out...Igntion 12V to the TC Lockup Solenoid in the box, Black wire from the solenoid to

My main concern now is trying to find a plug that will fit into the box and not leak oil.
I'll think about it for a few more days, and maybe a loom will show up.

You can get most plugs here. I think this is the right one for the auto.

Only prob is this is in the US, so you might have to hunt around for a more cost effective place to buy one from.
For the ECU interface plug, this place has the Yazaki connectors Holden use throughout the car.

That should be the right one to allow you to just wire in and plug and play into the engine harness without needing to hack anything.
But double check thats the right pin count and gender.
I only recently found this range sold by this mob and they are in Aus. For years I tried to find Yazaki connectors with no luck, now you can get them.
Handy for making this sort of conversion, redoing stuff in the commodores or adding a plug and play patch hardness for those ALDL adapters into the older 808 etc... Again, without hacking wires.
