I swear I saw this on a Land Rover forum, but now I can't find it.
Does anyone know the purpose of Ford CAN messages in the 0x6XX range? I can't seem to find any explanation for what they do.
This is for a 2017 F150, but I think it's common to all CGEA 1.3 vehicles.

Depending on the year and range that the ID is in these can be ECU Rx and Tx addresses, various diagnostic functions can appear when called on these IDS, they are also for things like PATS and configuration data messages, things that are not essential to the running of the car. CAN runs on a priority system, where the lower the message ID, the higher the priority of the message, so things up in this range will be more diagnostic in nature rather than to do with the actual running of the vehicle systems.

Thanks. I was suspecting something like that, or maybe something similar to GMs VNM frames. It's not super important to what I'm doing, but I was still curious to know what they're for.

Figure out CAN messaging and diagnostics as they relate to PATS functions so I can replace my BCM with a higher spec model.
It's probably a waste of time at this point. It looks like FORScan added the capability for the password protected PATS systems earlier this year.

PATS will be a combination of ECU Rx & Tx Diagnostic Messages in the 700s range, plus the actual exchange between the modules which is usually on ID 0x6F6 or similiiar. Best to sniff it first watching all traffic so you can see the complete picture of what happens, not just the happenings on a few ECU ids.

I figured out the PATS situation. It didn't make use of the 6xx CAN IDs.
I found one thing that does use part of that range though. 630 and 631 are the XCP IDs for this module.
