Gday all, hope everyone had a good Xmas and New Years. Bit of an update, I bought a Bosch injector noid test light and there is a signal to all injectors which is a relief. Charles mentioned the tps clear flood mode which will be my next check but now I will recheck the fuel pumps and lines. There is plenty of fuel pressure by the gauge but does pressure reflect reliable fuel delivery through the fuel lines. Cheers

There is relevance between pressure and flow but you do need to ensure both are within specs. With flow I just take off the return line and stick it in a bottle and run the engine for abt 30 seconds. Should be around 2L/min sometimes a bit less. In your case with the turbo 3L/min would be preferred. This is dependant on the fact that the pressue is OK. I'm wondering if the pickup hose inside the tank has perished and sucking air. Anyway that will show up with the volume test.

I ran a spare fuel pump direct from a tin of fuel, independent of my current fuel delivery system and no difference. I can get it to idle on fuel but very roughly and it constantly backfires. It has me stumped. I rechecked the position of the distributor rotor at tdc and it’s ok. With the ecu unplugged I have the timing set at 10 degrees before tdc. I am know thinking that maybe the coil is defective

Hi all, I made a video of the rough idle condition in the hope that someone may have experienced something similar. I now reckon the problem is an ignition or timing issue. Previously I did get it to idle smoothly on a steady spray of starting fluid but I have heard that this substance is too volatile and cannot be used to diagnose ignition problems. I set the no 1 piston at tdc and checked that the rotor was pointing to the correct post on the dizzy cap and all good.

Just note that it’s not just rough idle, I can’t get it to rev any higher than in the video.

Have no idea whats going on. It is either lean as hell or the spark is way out. Did this start just because it sat for some time? or have you been playing with things? You said it ran on aerostart. Did it run better then? Also what is the fuel pressure and flow?
The last thing is the polarity of the trigger spark. I know it will run like shit if the 2 wires from the dissy pickup coil are reversed.

Thanks Charles, you and me both.

It’s never started or run since I removed the engine etc to spray the engine bay, before this it ran perfectly. That said it hadn’t run for about 3 years.

First problem was CDI wasn’t putting out spark, so changed back to new stock Camira coil.

Got the distributor tested which required removal but position was noted and went back in same position.

Replaced ignition module.

Tested injector pulse with Noid light, all good.

All injectors tested and cleaned.

Spark tested on all cylinders, all good.

Idled smoothly on a steady stream of aerostart.

I am not sure I I can get it to idle long enough to test fuel volume but I will give it a go.

Bypassed all fuel lines and ran spare fuel pump direct to fuel rail from tin of fuel and no difference.

Reversed polarity of trigger spark and it wouldn’t even fire.

Don't know what happened to my last reply. It vanished. You can do a pressure flow test without the engine running. Bypass the fuel pump relay and turn the key on and see what you get. The volume must be measured on the return hose. 30 seconds is enough. Can you do a log and post it?

Probably stuck injectors
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem

If you reverse the polarity you have to move the dizxy position to reset base timing it throws it out s number of degrees
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem
