12p on VN V8 memcal

Post by JamesStevens »

its probably been asked before but im unable to find the answer
can i change the chip on a std vn/vp v8 memcal so i can flash a tuned 12p file onto it?
from what i understand the std chip is 16kb and 12p is 32kb and you cant split it to 16 with tuner pro?
I have found some ST m27c512 chips that i thought i may be able to solder on to early memcals and then flash the 12p tune file from the nvram once tuning was finished?

Yes, you can replace the chip with the 512kbit (64KiB) and stack 2 copies of the bin to make the 32 KiB 12P image into a 64 KiB file to put on the chip, and it will work, using the second copy (the first is just filler, and can also just be a blank 32 KiB file if you don't want the ambiguity in your image). If changing the number of cylinders from the original application, you also need to modify the netres chips, if it's the same number of cylinders you do not.

Watch out for fake chips, some of the SST chips in the wild don't work but give it a shot if you believe yours are real and see how you go.

Or you can just do a 8000 offset with the 27SF512 flash chip. Works a treat from there.
