I’m thinking the same, but I may try to contact a reman company and see if they’ll actually tell me without trying to sell me a new unit

So, I was told the “module” is in fact inside of the assist motor. So I’ll be getting a new assist motor and this one will be sitting on a shelf I guess so that when global B is figured out? Someone may be able to use it!

This should give you a good idea of what's involved in reverse engineering this system. Toyota's implementation isn't going to be exactly the same as GMs, but the concepts are pretty much identical.

The actual control electronics on the GM rack are under the black plastic cap on the end of the assist motor.

Thank you!!! That is an excellent read (the parts I can understand lol I’m not that technically savvy) and yes this sounds exactly like what I’m looking for. I’m not near experienced enough to do that, and no one has pulled that off with GM yet that I’m aware of. I’ve literally looked for almost a month at this point. As the system ages, there will be more of a need and someone with WAY more experience than me will figure it out I’m sure. Just a matter of time. I think my only option at this point is to replace that assist motor which is still WAY cheaper than the whole rack. So atleast I was able to knock off about 1400 by finding that out so atleast something came from it!

I dont understand anything about this module, and am not familiar with this platform, but some general advice. If you can see a flash chip in the electronics, maybe take an image of the flash chip of the new one if you can figure out how to do so before you do anything with it, as that should not contain any vin data, and if you can write the same image to the flash chip in the old one it might return it to virgin state where you can set a new vin. You could post the image up here for others to use then and write up a connection guide to do it. Its possible that the data is inside a micro as well, and if thats the case it'll be more specialist to get access to the the data than working with external eeprom or flash.

Re: GM Global B EPS reprogram possible?
Talked to several people today (some finally answered the phone) including a remanufacturing company for racks for global B parts, and here’s what I was told. This specific “module” is a micro behind the black cover on the assist motor. The way they are able to reman them is they have to buy a program directly from GM that is capable of reprogramming the assist motors. I mentioned DPS and He got quiet for a second and then said “yes, but it has to be a paid version, with credentials and login info. The cracked ones online won’t work… I tried that” They then buy the VIN for that module which allows them to send the files back to default. He was actually a pretty nice fella once we started talking and I explained the issue. I asked if I could send mine to him to have it “worked on” and they are only allowed to completely reman the entire rack which is about 100 cheaper than just buying new. Time I add in shipping etc, I’m about the same price. I actually found one someone was selling that the assist motor was broke open and could see in there a little on eBay and could see the chip. So, can it be done? I’m sure. The positive in this is I’ll have one soon that is coming out that I can “work with” and see what I can figure out. I am gonna go ahead and get the calibration files from the old one and from the new and see if I can see anything. IF I figure anything out? I’ll post it. Might help with other modules in the future, or someone else In my exact spot.

I know the truck global a chips were TMS570ls, an arm cortex variant I think... I started to work with it a little but have too many other projects right now.
Re: GM Global B EPS reprogram possible?
I think I have found the solution to program the global B architecture module on an unlicensed DPS.
