VN V8 timing

Post by Asho88 »

Need some help/advice having trouble getting the timing right there for getting the car to run. I’ve looked up how set it which is bridge the adl plug and adjust to 10 degrees just don’t seem to be getting anywhere. The ecu code reads 12 is there anything in ecu that could be adjusting based on temp etc?

So you're bridging the plug to put it in diagnostic mode then using a timing light and manually turning dizzy to get 10 degs?

Check the pins in the text file in the ose12p zip and make sure what is happening when you bridge the pins is that you are grounding the diagnostic pin. I am not sure if VN an 12P are setup the same.

What are you not seeing? Is it jumping around all over the place? If so then its not in diag mode.

Honestly no idea where to look for that 🤣 I’ve google it heaps and I’m doing the right thing I rigged up a light to act as an engine light and it’s showing code 12. Ummm I’ve got no idea haha. The timing is retarded and adjustments don’t seem to be working.

You know the zip file where you got the bin, xdf and adx? It's in there as well. It's all together.

Oh I get what you mean check the wiring diagram. Yeah I’ve checked a couple of sources and engine light is working in the right manner.

I am saying check what you are doing is grounding the diagnostic pin on the ECM documented for 12P which is what locks timing at 10 degrees. Not check the light, and not check documentation from random locations for other operating systems. There are minor variations between the VN and the VR. The code you are running now is based on the VR and customised further. Documentation for 12P should take priority where both are available.

So are you saying you bridge the diagnostic pins and adjust the timing to the 10 degree and when you take the bridgiing wire out the timing goes into retard. So without the link where does ithe timing end up at idle?

Just to confirm, is the engine running/idling when you are doing this?
