Setting up new injectors

Post by Asho88 »

Hi all I have a Vh 253 setup with VN 304 injection running an Nvram anyway I have had it started its rich as hell because I've gone to 42lb injectors planning on adding turbo at a later date anyway I've setup the Kinj flow and tried to follow the guide but it's a bit brief so I'm not sure how i should be adjusting some of the tables. If anyway has a few moments to help guide me through that'd be awesome. Once I get it running I'll be able to work with the data logging and wideband just a bit stuck at the moment. Cheers

Firstly work out the difference sin size between the old and the new injectors. I dont know the factory values, this is just an example. Say new are 42lbs and old are 19lbs. Keep in mind fuel pressure makes a difference, as does opening times, but the cranking tables don't need to be perfect, just in the ball park. So do 42/19=2.21 so they flow around 2.21 times the amount of fuel.

In tunerpro find the table "Map A: Crank - First Stage Crank Base Pulse Width vs Coolant Temp" and "Map A: Crank - Second Stage Crank Base Pulse Width vs Coolant Temp" and the table. One after the other select the whole table, widen the box if you need to see all the options and pick function divide, value 2.21. Save the changes. This will get the cranking fuel about right. Then you would do the injector flow rate. Due to real world factors this number wont be perfect, but its a starting point.

Do you have a wideband working? This is where you start needing one.

Start the car and let it warm up. When its warm modify the injector flow slowly to get the wideband reading what it did before the injector change. If its terrible change it when its cold too but remember the warm up tables are in play so you really want to get it dialed in on a hot engine, then look at things like warmup tables later to get it starting and well behaved from cold if you need to. Ideally you'd have injector opening time data and you enter that as well. Those values also might vary from internet or official data, but if you have trouble with idle and low pulse widths but the higher flow is good it likely means your opening time data needs correcting (or a hardware problem with the injectors).

I gave the exact name of them both cut and pasted from the 12P XDF. Are you using the right XDF? And if so, then you are editing the wrong thing and need to revert those changes.

I believe I am but I could be mistaken would makes sense because it keeps corrupting itself. The XDF is $5D XDF

That is not compatible with the 12P operating system. 5D and 12P are different software. You CANNOT mix and match XDFs and bins. If you are mismatched any changes you make will corrupt your NVRAM (probably how you got corrupted in the first place) and even if you get lucky and dont kill it immediately it will still corrupt your tune somehow. If you have been using a 5D XDF with 12P software, throw away any and all changes you made with that setup and go back to the last known good tune where you were only using the 12P XDF with the 12P bin. If you are unsure start again from scratch and use only 12P BIN, XDF and ADX, all from the same version 12P version 112 zip package. A mistake about this now might cause an unsolvable problem later meaning you waste heaps of time, and so do we if you ask questions with a mismatch being the root cause here and we suggest other things that will never work to track it down.

Yeah that makes sense I looked at the picture you’d posted and added the same Xdf then was able to make the suggested changes and few from the guide got it running thank you. Now onto tuning.
