808 errors no start

Post by seanlivingstone »

Hey all! Having an issue with a vn 808 ecu, clicks the engine fan relay on and off, iac goes crazy and the ecu is counting errors at the same time and won’t start, no rpm signal ect. I have tried reprogramming the nvram and still nothing. Car starts and runs with old memcal and putting this nvram into another vn makes it not start ect.

Cheers for the help in advance!

sounds like its not flashed right and/or the nvram chip physically damaged and a pin not makeing connection and the computer is not working. fans are in hardware backup when the ecm isnt booted.

How did you flash the NVRAM? I had a similar issue recently after the read/write wire shorted to case and made the mistake of flashing through a normal memcal adapter first, when you actually have to (very carefully) remove the NVRAM chip from the socket and insert directly onto the programmer, then flash the applicable stacked bin for your base OS. To reduce chance of issue I just used the vanilla stacked bin from the OSE zip and then uploaded my modified CAL in tuner pro.

I’ve tried re-flashing a stacked bin on the chip directly (not through the adapter) also made sure r/w adapter was off of nvram, will check all the solder joints ect tonight at some point!

check for bent pins on the nvram chip too, one might have gotten pinched and bent out sideways when you re-installed it. hopefully not, but it is a risk and can happen.

How old is the memcal? It might not be retaining the data properly or at all if the internal battery is stuffed. They should last about 10 years after their first programming which activates the battery. Some last much longer than that, a lot get around the 10 years or so and die as expected though.

Checked for bent pins already and found nothing on the memcal or the nvram chip. the memcal is about a week old!

Worked out the header for the memcal is fucked, ended up getting it to do it with the original memcal and bending the board got it to drop in and out

Nice find! Intermittent faults are always the most fun to find!
