GM autos and diffs are generally pretty straight-forward with the right tools (often you just need to make something to suit), parts, and a halfway decent workshop manual. Trimatic, TH350, TH700, Banjo/Salisbury/Borg Warner diffs all pretty good to work with.
The other thing I found made a significant difference with the TKO down-shifting is reducing the EFI throttle follower. I hate the rev hang anyway but it improved the shifting a lot allowing the revs to drop to sync rpm that much quicker. I have a twin-plate McLeod RST clutch so there is some mass there too, all organic material but solid hub. The Pro 5.0 shifter is an improvement over the standard one, I like to run a shorter throw with a longer stick.

Re: Torana SS
Been having an intermittent low oil pressure issue, suspected partially blocked or maybe cracked pickup.
Finally got around to the major exercise that is removing the cross member to get the sump off. Yep, it's cracked.

Kind of relieved to see it, was dreading pulling everything apart without finding anything obvious. A little odd but it has seen 50+ years of abuse in and out of vehicles.
