VY2 L67 manual conversion...

Post by SeLf-ChecKoUT666 »

Seeing as its 22 years old as of a few days ago this has probably been asked a million times.. but

VY Series 2 Storm Ute 5 speed L67
(assuming conversion judging by the butchered auto loom and the compliance plate saying L3...)

Why is the OBD2 terminal only half pinned?
Unreadable by most scan tools?
(Only been read by an Autel which I can't afford haha..)
I'd assume Tech2s would read but can't afford that either.

Is it possible to pin in the necessary wires to allow OBD2 scanners to work or are there other alternative ways?

Cause I am chasing my ass at the moment pin probing and checking then re checking every connection looking for faults.

Any help would be appreciated and soon before it becomes scrap steel.
Cheers

OBD2 won't work.
These are ALDL.

Only need 4 pins to for the "OBD" port to work.

That's actually very helpful mate. Don't suppose I could grab one off a shop shelf somewhere or are they a order and wait type deal? If you know that is.. lol
Is it the scanner itself or just the cable pin out?
I'll do some searching anyway but all info is welcome

The only scan tool that will support these off the shelf is professional tools.
They are not OBD2 (despite using the same connector).

You can buy an ALDL to USB cable and use tunerpro with the correct ADX with some fiddling around.

But if you want something that "just works":

Yeah, I've gone head first down the rabbit hole... Envyous site says out of stock join the waitlist....
Looking into apps. They have apps for everything now days and low and behold ALDLroid.. $26 too ez now I need a 16 pin ALDL to USB cable.

Im improving with my "DYI Electrical Apprenticeship" but making one seems a bit advanced for now.

So the chase is on will see what I find.

Bright side is probably saved $1500 by asking a few questions to the right crowd.

ALDL Droid is more for in car dash. it does work, but it is using ADX files that are actually for tunerpro, which is free. so you are better off for diagnostics with the aldl cable and a pc with tunerpro, and the right ADX file. its best to use the ones from 'the1s enhanced' which are a custom pcm operating system, but they are an extension of factory and the logging adx files are almost 1:1 match. ALDL Droid needs specific ADX files and there is no guarantee the correct one will work without changing it, and that can be a bit of a black art. You can buy ALDL cables from this site, other places online or DIY your own from a cheap ebay VAG interface. viewtopic.php?p=122427#p122427

There was a post on here abt modifying cheap Chinese OBD2 plugs for ALDL. I did one and it works a treat but atm I'm having HDD issues trying to clone a drive and recover data. Someone may chime in and help.
