Holden 5L custom memcal?

Post by Vnwago »

Hi hopefully im posting in the correct spot my apologies if not

I have a vn 5L and planed on sticking a air cleaner out the bonnet so was going to run a Elderbrock or something similar manifold with a holley throttlebody,

Now the engines stock and i know itll need a tune of some sort so just curious if theres anyone or somewhere i can get a memcal to suit without having to go down the tuning route as thats abit of a hassle where i currently live

Breakdown ( single or duelplane manifold with Edelbrock fuel rail and a throttlebody to suit tune )

Any helps appreciated

That sound like it will need a tune. MAP based systems measure pressure and map that to airflow based on known restrictions in the intake. Manifold changes, TB changes will change all of that. You may get really lucky if someone has done the same thing and is sharing, and it may run on the stock memcal, but you'll probably be leaving noticeable gains on the table and have poor enrichment if you don't tune it properly.

Yea was hoping to not to sound cheap but go the cheaper route, turns into a costly exercise once tuning gets involved specially here in nz where next to no one touches the stock ecu’s

I didn’t really have any issues with drivability. Before I turbo’d my old 5 litre, I chucked on a harrop single plane with an edelbrock elbow and a 90 or 100mm ls throttle body. Other than exhaust it was all stock when I first started building that. You may get lucky. I’d still get someone to tune it eventually though.
