2010 Cobalt BCM bin
I'm hoping someone can tell me what I need to edit in order for my tech2 to let me go through the setup like it's a new BCM. This BCM isn't on SPS so you can only make changes like remote start from a new BCM. I've already tried to zero out the vin but that didn't do it, so hopefully someone can tell me how to do it! Thanks alot!

I'm interested also.
It should be the same as a C6 Corvette. Posts I have found say to use an old version of TIS2000

Re: 2010 Cobalt BCM bin
I have an old version but there is not any sps data for this BCM. You can only set it up with a Tech 2 but it has to be new. Other wise it will say it's locked and you can only do a very few setup points. Something needs to be changed in the bin I posted, but I just don't know what to change.radrace19 wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 8:09 pm I'm interested also.

Yes, I understand. The C6 Corvette uses a very similar BCM. If you do some reading on that BCM you will get the posts about using TIS2000 to reset it.T3klock wrote: Thu Feb 26, 2026 11:37 pmI have an old version but there is not any sps data for this BCM. The G6 also uses a similar BCM along with the HHR SS that is in my driveway. Maybe if I get a chance I'll pull the BCM and read the EEPROM and mess with it some.

Re: 2010 Cobalt BCM bin
I was playing around with my backup BCM on the bench today with Tech2win. I went into 2013, selected Y for the model (I think this is c6 vett) and it gave me an option to reset the RPO codes for the BCM. I selected that option and it did do something to the BCM (eeprom changed). It seems it made a bunch of changes where I believe the milage is stored. Can someone confirm this? I haven't plugged it into my car so I don't know if it's going to give me that locked message when I try to set it up like before. I will post the eeprom so others can see before and after selecting this option.

Re: 2010 Cobalt BCM bin
Might try and log the gmlan data and see what it's asking? Might be able to spoof the replies to something else if you can't find what needs to be changed in the eeprom? or at least see what it's replying with data wise and see if it's matching anything in the eeprom?

With that logic I was able to capture the data between DPS and my BCM when I click the "get controller info" box. One of the things that it returns back is the "Programming Status". Can you point me to some docs that I can read to figure out where in this log is the command DPS sent to get that info?ironduke wrote: Sun Mar 15, 2026 11:01 pm Might try and log the gmlan data and see what it's asking? Re: 2010 Cobalt BCM bin
The 01 A2 is programming status request and the 02 E2 00 is the programming status with 00 being completely programmed.
unfortunately I very much doubt that is what it is looking to decide whether or not it allows reconfiguration. That is programming status of the OS and calibration files, has nothing to do with whether the module is new or not..
One thing I am wondering about is the enable counter, that is always at 00 in vehicles but as I understand it that is some kind of software lock that when first set up from the factory or manufacturer it is at something higher, maybe even 0xff and every ignition cycle it counts down by one.. When it gets to zero it's locked down.. Possibly this is something to try and change, I haven't played around with it much but I have yet to be able to write it with a 3b command, always refused.. I am guessing that value is stored in the eeprom somewhere, if you could find out where and change it that might be the key, besides the vin of course..
You mentioned you tried something with your backup bench bcm, can you do a request info with that and see what the enable counter is? Curious if that one shows 00 or something else now?

Re: 2010 Cobalt BCM bin
Oh yeah I forgot to update this thread about the bench bcm. So the issue I'm having is for whatever reason every time I try to setup the BCM on the bench Tech2Win crashes before it gives me that locked status. I have to actually install it in my car and try it like that. Anyway after installing it, it did give me the normal "locked" error message. I'm not sure what that setting did, but it appears it's working fine because I'm driving with it now. That is also why I couldn't grab the logs when using the tech2 like I did here with DPS. I think I'm going to install this pi in my car and try to get the tech2 logs like you first suggested. Man I really appreciate you helping me with this!!ironduke wrote: Thu Mar 19, 2026 12:23 am The 01 A2 is programming status request and the 02 E2 00 is the programming status with 00 being completely programmed.

edit: Something else i noticed is if you go to 2013 on the tech2 go to the vett code and try to setup the bcm that way it gives an error something like "this vin does not support this". I was thinking maybe change the vin to a vett vin and see what it does... just thinking out loud... lol

Re: 2010 Cobalt BCM bin
This is the same log but over the 2 wire HS Can network.
I guess the BCM responds to both the LS and the HS network pretty much the same way...
