GM ECU Simulator

Post by hjtrbo »

Not 1 line of code written by a human. It's not free of quirks though.

A standalone Windows app that emulates one or more GM (GMLAN / GMW3110-2010) ECUs and registers itself as a real J2534 PassThru device. Any J2534-aware host — Tech 2 Win, GDS, MDI, your own logger — loads it via the standard registry path and connects to it as if it were a Tactrix OpenPort or MongoosePro.
  • Implements GMW3110 services $22 (ReadDataByPid), $2C (DynamicallyDefineMessage), $2D (DefinePidByAddress), $AA (ReadDataByPacketIdentifier — periodic UUDT push at Slow / Medium / Fast bands), plus the auxiliary modes $3E TesterPresent, $20 ReturnToNormal, and $10 InitiateDiagnosticOperation needed for a real tester to handshake.
  • Real ISO-TP segmentation/reassembly, flow-control frames, P3C timeout handling, idle-bus detection.
  • N concurrent virtual ECUs on a virtual CAN bus, routed by destination CAN ID.
  • PID values synthesised from waveforms (sine / triangle / square / sawtooth / constant) or replayed from .bin log files.
  • Defaults to the OBD-II convention ($7E0 request, $7E8 USDT response, $5E8 UUDT response). Per-ECU IDs are editable.

Nice! Thats actually pretty incredible! :D

Only thing I could think of is adding in the ability to set other custom messages for it to parse for other modes.

Basiclaly include the ability to add custom responses to various other modes such as 1A,34,36,27 ect.

Definitely interested!!!!

I had a couple of minutes and wanted to take a look at it. 2 errors for reference files missing?
I can kind of work with c# in visual studio but it looks like I can't quite build this and try it.

$1A should be easy, just give it a table of known values?
$27 algo is known, a logic puzzle for the ai to implement in code.
Programming session, hmmmm, that will need some planning out.

Can you try a fresh download of the repo please. It's my first time using git, it didn't grab those external references.

Yeah basically, that would work for 1A.
For instance, if it was 1A C0, the user could enter 11,22,33,44 and it would send those four bytes back as formatted: 5A C0 11 22 33 44

Not all algos are known (global B.. or any algos that use 27 03/05/07 ect.. and yes they do exist as they are used for engineering/manufacture level access).

Same kinda thing for all modes to be honest. Either the user could enter the exact frame to return including the mode/SID byte, or the application could automatically add the +0x40 and the user supplies the rest of the data that comes after it. (Maybe?)

These are just idea/thoughts, they don't have to go into it! Woudl help with navigating softwares like GDS2 or custom made software which may request or perform actions like above for diagnosing and troubleshooting

I'm looking into $27 now.

Tazzi, can you review the plan please. It's not the full solution, just framework and basic plumbing. Claude will do the grunt work but to turn the security module into a viable tool would need your expert input - aka: test drive it - then tell me it's farked.

I've installed a security module. You can write your logic it for it and plug it in. Or play around with the common e38 pre-built one. Info is in the user manual, section 8. And there is a how to guide also. Both in the docs folder.

Had a quick overlook, seems sane!
