Chrysler NGC4 (MPC5554MZP80 CPU)

Post by AngelMarc »

Apparently there are exactly zero free software options for anything Chrysler.
Hoping to "get the ball rolling".

Doesn't look to have extra signal processing ICs like P01 and P59 Delco CIC. Haven't double checked that yet though.

HPTuners has options for no CAN bus start signal and SKIM disable and reset.

Did I mention the lack of a MAF sensor? So, should be simple speed density.

1. Read 2MB flash takes less than 4 seconds.
2. Read /write EEPROM less then one second.
3.Program flash takes 14 seconds, the erase time 7 seconds. Total about 22 seconds.
4 3D printed JIG with very little effort for JTAG connection. I think it is even possible NOT to remove the jelly.

Program Flash
-erase flash
Erase starts...
Erase time 00:00:07 (.155)
-sprogram flash
Program Starts...
Program speed 142.32 KB/s
Program time 00:00:14 (.736)
Program pass, if no further programming needed, power off/on the target
-cmpram flash
Time 00:00:03 (.377)
Compare data OK

If that's the MPC555 family then it's probably based the same SDK kit and platform the dephi PCMs from GM used from the same era. But the software stack would be completely different. Probably worth trying to get a bin first. Someone might be able to hpt to bin the hpt file if you have one so you can load it in ghidra. And there may be BDM possible too.

Can you name a car/year/model that had it? Might help get started looking for info.

MPC5xx (Power MPC) and MPC5xxx (Qoriva) are different families of chips.

What makes Chrysler so much more difficult to work with than GM and Ford?

At my absolute surface level understanding i'd say less information so far to get a leg up in the public domain.

I'm sure the different ownership situations hasn't helped either. They don't seem to have the same kind of electrical architecture lineage as some of the other manufacturers.

Mine came from a 2011 VW Routan. A rebadged Grand caravan. Took 2 hours of searching and AI to even confirm it was an NGC4; At first AI told me it's a GPEC2 "distinguished by it's 4 connectors", because I asked which GPEC version it was... Of course, it tells me "what I want to hear" instead of "it's not GPEC".

One or both these videos has decent info on which years.

The CPU model name in title is what I read myself after opening one up. NXP says it's "full PowerPC compatible". Or am I clueless and "power architecture" doesn't mean "powerPC".

Less interest and less info, I guess.

And overall, from what little I pay attention to, there seems to be more overlap with "street take over, hood rat" types that'd rather throw money at somebody else with HPTuners to do whatever. I mean, every brand has those.

Some people around here do go through a lot of hassle and expense to rebuild some of these cars. Worked on a Challenger recently where there's some mix of RT and non-RT parts that caused extra hassle. I think it's RT subframe that takes camber bolts, but everything else is for something that doesn't come with camber bolts. With that subframe, it needs the camber bolts. Not even the V8, the craptastic 3.6 DOHC with too much nonsense for it's own good. Cam chains with plastic rubbing blocks as tensioners, chain driven oil pump. I hate it. Trying to get an older 3.5. that ones pretty close to a Honda J series without Vtec or VVT.
As far as I can tell, you can get all those with the NGC4. V6 DOHC VVT, old and simple V6, Hemi V8, non Hemi V8.

All of the FCA (Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge ect) ECMs have inbuilt bootloaders that handle reflashing.
The part that that no-one has really done any work with is breaking down the OS/Cal sections, segment checksum/s, algos ect.

If looking outside of HP, theres options like bitbox:

I doubt I'll find it personally worth $350. But I'll look into that more later; might learn something else looking into it.
