Well that was a mission.
Proof of concept. Sadly I don't have anything less than a VS running to do proper testing.

you might have already noticed but there is some funny business going on with the 12p xdf an oseplugin and the ecm to allow the xdf to be used for realtime and for bin editing. I think there is an offset in the xdf for disk and that is ignored or changed for realtime. if you want the 12p xdf to work with this in ostrich mode you'll need to add the same offset changes somewhere.

Hadn't gotten to that part yet honestly, this is just the onerom on the bench plugged into pc.
Just successfully got the bin on there and reading/communicating. Baby steps.

It's all allowing me to edit, upload, verify (although sometimes requires a powercycle/reconnect, is this the funny business?).
Closed bin, downloaded from onerom, changes were definitely written and saved.

(Edit Update)
Attempted the same method with BPLZ9214 64k and changing rom emulation to 27512.
Tunerpro is dumping 64k, only the first 32k is being accessed correctly, suspect it's something in the onerom firmware causing it.

I wonder if anyone has considered something similar to this but with a FPGA instead of a microcontroller.

I assume a FPGA could achieve much better access speeds

There have been things like that over the years, but this is a lot cheaper. The rp chip is orders of magnitude faster than the eeprom it's emulating and the whole thing is cheaper and simpler without specialist knowledge than an FPGA.

We're not trying to recreate anything to difficult, it's really just trying to replace and serve an eprom or an nvram for easy tuning, the price of doing this with an fpga would blow the costs out sustantially.
It's not a new idea, ROM emulators have been around for decades but building one is often using obsolete or expensive parts, or buy a commerical one.
Prices range from $100 into 4 figures, then you'd have to find a way to communicate with it easily.

I recall something called the ROMulator(or similar name) from 20 or more years ago, maybe in electronics australia or similar magazine, can't find any information online about it now.

OneROM fitted into an ic socket, socket fitted to memcal.
Seems the fire-28-a is the better option for holden ecu's with the horizontal usb c instead of the fire-28-b with a vertical usb c, although might be tricky with the knock board still installed.

Looks at home in an 808, if I left the pin headers off (which really aren't needed for this application) could even fit the cover back on.
Now i just need to find my modded 808 with usb serial......

Silly question, does the firmware allow the emulation of an actual NVRAM or SRAM? If it could do that, would that make 12P work as if nothing happened? I am not completely versed with the all the details on how 12P works on the NVRAM with RT, vs 12P loaded up on a standard EEPROM.

Where are you located in Vic? I have all my 808 stuff and my daily I could def help with testing if you're not too far from me.

Basics are it's emulating an eprom. Ecu/pcm/eprom programmer see it and read it as that.
The firmware on the rpi running in the background allows editing of the image served in realtime via ose and tunerpro.

It's far from being a final product, it's all still in developement and has some limits.

Converting the 12P to images was a bit of a pain, and like i said in another post, some bins upload no problems while others fail for some reason.

As a simple eprom emulator i've had it running in a VR auto pcm, I'm determined to test the live tuning side of this, just need to get one of the poor neglected cars running that'll take an 808.
Hiding away in central vic about an hour away.

The ALPHA Firmware has been updated.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioQ_8yWanaE

Now to get this version working in an 808. (If you're following along at home obviously the 808 isn't 5v logic comms like the honda ecu)
Assuming the max232 comms circuit and some inverter circuitry is going to be the easiest option here.
The OneROM pins used for this are 3.3V logic.

I haven't modded an ecu yet to test.
Does anyone have a picture of an 808 mainboard with the memcal socket removed to see all traces under it?
