Folks, I am new here.
Currently putting an VTS2 Ecotec V6 and 4L60E into a VN --> along with the entire loom, the dash, the whole bloody lot (except for the airbag stuff) - will also fit the ABS as well (thats the plan anyway)
Have fiddled with the old 808s in the VN aeons ago. My old VN at the time was used as the test mule for 'blacky' to get the ALDL info into EFILive millions of years ago.
Anyway, I am told that the PCM and BCM are 'paired' --> so if you take a BCM from a VTS2 for example and put it in another car, it won't work until its taken to holden and re-paired (as opposed to repaired). My question is, where is this 'pairing' held - is it in the Memcal or is it held elsewhere in NVRAM or something similar?
Any ideas? My reasons for asking is I am told that my PCM and BCM were from the same car. I am hoping this is correct, but, when I first received the 'mated' PCM --> it was from a VX as it didn't have the removable memcal....

Re: PCM and BCM - pairing
The BCM-->PCM linking info is stored in the EEPROM inside the CPU of the PCM. It can be changed fairly easily but due to the security/theft aspect I doubt its discussed publicly on the net. If you find they are not matched there are many people on here that can help

Re: PCM and BCM - pairing
Hi I Have a Similar Question
a mate of mine is about to fit a 5.0lt with a Auto to a VT V6 Berlina
i already have a VT 5.0lt 5 speed Manual ECU sitting here(a Spare that i have-from a wrecked car) i know that the ECU itself is the same for VT v8 manuals or Autos, so is it possible to get the memcal in my spare ECU already paired to suit the VT 5.0 Auto and my mates VT Berlina's BCM?
would i still need to take the car to holdens once the cars converted to V8?
OR would i be better hunting a matching VT 5.0 BCM and ECU from a Wreck
thanks

Re: PCM and BCM - pairing
The actual PCM is linked to the BCM (the EEPROM inside the CPU has the info), the memcal does not store the info. So yeah you will either need to see holden or someone on here thats close to you might be able to help.

Re: PCM and BCM - pairing
i reckon i hit the problem.
finally got almost there ; i have a no start. no even crank!
checked the start relay ; sure enough +12V on one feed constant, +12v switched from ignition, but, no earth = earth is sent from PCM to relay for start.
so while i don't get flashing light on the trip computer during cranking (key fob is paired to BCM) pretty sure the BCM and PCM are not paired. at all.

Re: PCM and BCM - pairing
psyolent, where in Aus are you? I can if your in Adelaide I can pair the PCM to BCM and also read your key to make sure it is coded to your BCM.
