Enabling knock board in tune

Post by krusty »

Starting to work up a base tune to start going RT on this 5L VP

Here's my dilemma (albeit minor): The car has an ATJN memcal without Knock board from the factory however in the ATJN tune it has "ESC"/ knock sensor parameters active. Another factor that has me stumped is that when the engine was getting rebuilt recently the owner went to Holden and ordered a bunch of replacement sensors, one of which was a replacement knock sensor that came along with a new Knock filter board yet when we removed the memcal for a look see it actually doesn't have a knock board fitted at all!

Is enabling knock sensors in this case as simple as fitting the knock board to the memcal?

Here's the memcal as it stands

This is the knock board that came with the new knock sensor

Believe that's a V6 knockboard, V8 ones start with 1Fxxxx.
If you bought it off the guy on ebay with 3 letters and 3 numbers in his ID, it is definitely V6.
Guys on here that have tried it have observed significant amounts of false knock, to the point of being unusable :( .
If you want to use a knock sensor on a V8 need a genuine V8 knockboard or memcal.

The knock board was purchased from Holden with a HSV I'd. Everyone on here says that it's a V6 one.

Main concern at this point is that the memcal that was factory fitted with an ATJN bin doesn't have a knock board yet the tune had ESC settings enabled

Well aside from the type of knock board (since nobody seems to know for sure how to ID them by eye, and if holden say its the right one, I see why your prepared to run with that for now) then yes, it is as simple as soldering it on and making sure you have the right settings in the tune. You can see knock retard while logging so you'll know if its pulling timing for knock or not. Note that when the knock filter isnt connected then you will see quite significant timing pulled. Also note that in OSE12P there is no flag to disable the knock sensor, its done by setting the coolant enable temp to the max, so it never enables.

Going by this list .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... =20#p13685 .. 1Fxxxx would be V8.
