have owned car all but first couple of years. believe engine is original and I had it rebuilt about 20000km ago. car is nov 89 build which is when gmh did some engine changes, from experience with spares etc believe engine is a mix of S1/S2 from the factory.
attempted my second program change/burn, set TCC lock/unlock parameters for lower road speed lockup. bin passed first test, car started. road test to follow. swapped ecu to original, kept sv3800 bin and checked battery voltage at ecu. it is 14 volts when engine running and aldl still reports 13 volts. has anyone else had trouble with winaldl, is there an alternative.

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: VN Commodore ECU update
the bin fitted to the original ecu was an ATFY which from the info here was for "Production Run Change for 1990 Eng". again have no reason to believe ATFY bin is not original, how it got into a 89 Nov build commodore I have no idea. maybe it was standard fit to an S1.5 engine. anyway will give the ASBY bin a go. recalibrated TCC lockup worked a treat. so much easier to drive at the 80kph speed limit with lockup than be forced to run at 90kph.

Re: VN Commodore ECU update
keep in mind the memcal might have been updated if the car was ever recalled, also it may had an issue that the original owner complained about and they put a new tune in it to fix it .... or simply the ecm might have died and it was replaced with one from a wreckers etc.

Re: VN Commodore ECU update
ASBY bin loaded and run. attached log is only short, 10 minutes or so, but results appear to my untrained eye to be much better. ignore the low battery voltage, this log from a night run. engine prefers S2 based bin even though inlet and exhaust manifolds and heads are S1. if major components are S1 what engine components remain that would make a S2 bins work. possibly the S1 bins were all poor tunes and, as you suggested Holden 202, a recall upgraded the S1 bin to S2. am i correct to suggest idle is rich, BLM 118. would there be any advantage in a change. by the way delcowizzid did Adrian provide a 2 bar bin with the extended VE table.

Re: VN Commodore ECU update
much appreciated delcowizzid. had forgotten the cam and S 1.5 engines may have had a cam change too. hard to know what GMH changes during production run. new bin affects which area of engine, mid/top end.

Re: VN Commodore ECU update
you will notice a difference everywhere with that bin but WOT will be the biggest improvement
