Converting Late 6L trans to Early

Post by Knackersjewels »

What are my options here guys?

Got a 2012 6L45, bolted to a VZ V6.

Got a 2007 6L80 valve body and TCM installed in it.
Patched CANBUS, its communicating fine, shifts all gears, and gear indicator is fine on dash. Thanks to Tre-Cool for that.
Using 2008 6l50e OS from Cadillac CTS
Problem is shift flares on upshifts.
No matter what I do, its hitting max line pressure, but clutches are slipping. I've adjusted oncoming volume presets, shift timings etc, makes no difference.

So it looks like the valvebody and Trans just aren't compatible.

What are the options for getting a late valvebody/tcm back in it, and making it communicate with teh 2005 ECM? As far as I'm aware, the late tcm doesn't have half of the CAN TX/RX Ids required to work with the early systems.

Has anyone done it, just in like, a vf 6l80 into an early VE?

Couple ways about this, but Id say start by:
1) Look what an early trans send/receives, look at the actual CAN records in the OS to see what exactly they are doing as well.
2) Compare what a late trans send/receives, verify which CAN IDs differ and if any frame lengths differ.

If any CAN ID's are different between the two, work out what they actually do.
From there, can look at patching in/remove specific CAN timer routines to add in or remove anything unrequired.

Its alot of R&D work in IDA/Ghidra, but certainly can be done :D

Yeah so the early TCM I adjusted the CAN IDs to accept the ECM, everything seems to be reporting perfectly. The early one has all the correct IDs, just disabled if not necessary.

The late TCM doesn't have them at all, so I will just have to patch them in. Hopefully I can nut it out

use my scanner software & get me some logs & a list of whats configured to TX/RX on the ECU

the main thing for these is the torque signal.

I can use savvyCAN, but your scanner doesn't connect to the SM3, as its 32bit
