Just started modifying the 7603 P59

Post by ProfessWRX »

I finally got around to looking at the code in my Tahoe.

Put in a quick routine to flash the check engine light when KNOCK is above a threshold. Don’t know if anybody else has done it yet. Pretty simple.

Want to implement another light or perhaps a flashing routine to display trans temp or high trans temp.

Also working on tap shift. This one seems seriously helpful for towing but will require wiring in 2 momentary buttons or a sequential like shifter.

Anybody does this yet to save me some time???

Guess not.

Plan is to hijack the cruise shift tables to be a third mode.
1. Normal
2. Tow/performance
3. Tap shift.

Good news is I’ve figured out how to do it without needing to add buttons or switches or wires. All OEM implementation.

Got stage 1 of tap shift done. It now has 3 different shift strategies to choose from as a driver. (Not including the 7 low/2nd/urban/4wd/wot tables.

Normal drive.
Performance or two/haul.
Special mode.

To enter special mode: Have cruise on, perf/tow on hold cruise set and accel at the same time to enter this mode.

Turn of cruise or perf/tow to return to normal modes.

If anybody wants this functionality it can be beneficial Im sure. It’s just the stepping stone to tap shift.

This steals the cruise tables from pcm control and gives them to you essentially.

Tap shift for upshifts works. Now to do the same for downshifts and add some safety stipulations.

Adding in the safety net and downshifting introduced a few bugs. Still have one bug left that I haven’t looked into but working otherwise!

Well… it works.. going to port to p04 and see about a fun version. This tow version isn’t inspiring.
