I am confused, what is "Burst Knock Retard" and when does it come into play?
I have read it retards the timing for an instant under hard throttle,
but i thought that was torque management ?
I believe its nothing to do with the knock sensor.

Re: Burst Knock Retard
Yeah its for when you give it a big wack of throttle its designed to stop it knocking, and does not use the knock sensor for any feedback. So its a fixed amount that it retards then gets slowly decayed to zero again.
Torque management in the early vehicles is just fixed timing to stop abuse - in $12 for instance its invoked when trying to go from Park to Drive with heaps of RPM.
