Ditto^

In my experience, the UV lamp usually didn't erase the chip properly until 20min, the larger chips also take longer as the cells have physically less surface area for the UV to have effect on and quantum mechanical voodoo effects. So those 64k chips might take even longer.

Iirc, sometimes when you erased them not quite long enough eg. for the recommended 10-15min, the chip might blank check but fail to write correctly or at all, like the cells were not quite drained of their charge Try that if you haven't already to rule that out as a potential issue.

Apparently you can also degrade and kill the chip exposing it for too long/often as each exposure does some damage to the chip, once damaged enough the gates are no longer insulated properly by the dielectric layer, so the charge just leaks out or ends up a short. I'm not sure how long of an expose is needed to do that, but it does and will happen eventually.

Yeah, factory ones quality is a bit sus too. They passed QA out the door, but I've seen dead bits, that wont erase or re-program. If it's only 1 bit you'll have a 50% chance it's stuck at 1 or 0 and that is the bit you want. But in this case it's saying FF, which is erased, so it's not an erase problem, its a program problem. It needs to clear all 8 bits for the first byte, and none of them write to zero. So not programming.

Yeah I have an Nvram wanting to transfer that tune onto a memcal discovered that the stock VN one doesn’t have enough space so I’ve obtained a Vr v6 auto memcal but still having no luck keeping getting errors. It’s reading empty but it’s not IDing the memcal properly.

Is the pictured orientation correct?

The program shows a pic of the orientation on the right side if I recall, assuming you chose the right device from the list. So just copy how it shows it.

It does show a picture but honestly I’m unsure of the orientation of the chip because from what I’ve seen it’s done the way I have it but when I flipped it the opposite way it reads in the ID check and also read that it isn’t empty I’m very confused.

there is a notch in one end of the chip and the notch is in the diagram, or else its some kind of mark. that needs to be the same end as it is in the pic. And one end is the end of the chip meeting the end of the socket. I think notch is toward the center, but check from the chip and picture in the app.

But if it reads correct AND it blank checks, then you likely have an insufficient power problem.

Look at the chip, it has a notch at one end. That is the end where pin 1 will be. The pic on the program will show that notch as well. Just has to point the same way.

Also, given that you are using an adapter, which I also use. Sometimes the pins on the programmer side don't connect properly due to some oxide, so when I install it into the programmer, I hold the level so that the socket starts to grab the pins an then slide the adapter side to side to scrape and bite into the pins, so the contacts bite through the oxide layer (often not visible), this makes the contact nice and solid.

Even one pin not connecting properly can make the program and ID fail. You need every single pin to connect for it to work.

EDIT: Ant bet me to the notch. I had this reply open for a while but had to do something before I pressed submit.

Ah got it now. So with 12P onto a VR auto memcal you will need to write it one of 2 ways either an offset or stacked bin for the size of that memcal. I was using an 8000 offset when writing but thanks to Antus's info always stack 2 bin files onto the memcal. I also gave up playing with erasable memcals years ago and use flash chips for my projects. I did notice on the earlier pic there was a red indicator on the programmer. I think that is indicating a problem

So after reading the replies I’ve verified it’s on the right way thank you. When I do an ID check it’s coming up as unknown device I think that is an issue it reads that it’s empty and can do a blank check. But won’t write or give me an ID I did try Vlad’s suggestion of dragging the adapter in the programmer to remove any oxidation no luck as yet. Cheers

What chip ID does it identify as when you click ID check?
