Hey that's interesting and something I hadn't considered.
I'm in the planning stages of an 8HP into 6lt crewman, keen to see what you work out with this.

According to chemistry, alcohol is a solution...

if you watch customecm on FB right now, he has it working with an e38 already.

1) He's not sharing any info about what he's doing
2) He appears to be doing it WITHOUT an aftermarket controller, so I'd be losing all the functionality that makes the 8HP so appealing.

I'm doing it many ways, custom E38/E67/E92 (possibly E90, I just mapped out the E90 today) ECMs and MaxxECU. I have a friend asking to modify a dominator for the 10R currently too. I have most all the bins broken into full xdf's already.OldSkoolGP wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2026 9:23 pmI've seen his stuff.gixxer92 wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2026 6:42 pm if you watch customecm on FB right now, he has it working with an e38 already.

I have a friend with two Bruiser Jeep conversions with E38's. One port injection conversion 6.6L (L8T) with an 8HP75 and the other is a LS3 6.2 with other "stock" jeep trans ( I forget the model, but it was sent off and built too). Bruiser runs a gateway. I told him that it might take me a couple of weeks but I most likely will have one of his images modified and read for testing.
My IROC will be getting the MaxxECU and the 8HP90 (if I can afford it) or go for a well built 8HP70 with billet internals for the HP the 427 is pushing. I modified the Tremec Magnum to pump trans fluid and push it on to the head gear. I want to run the Texas mile with this car.
My Firebird TA will get the LT1 and 8HP, driven with the E92.
I have most of the CAN data mapped out now as well for the dodge 5.7 and 6.4 motors and I would say engine and tcm side I have a lot of the GM CAN data across multiple platforms.

Re: GM Can info & knowledge share
I could ditch the E38, have MaxxECU run everything, and have no problem. But I want to come up with a solution for all the VE/VF Holdens in the US. That means E38 with a MaxxECU running the trans. I have no doubt they can exist on the same CAN network if I can eliminate the collisions. Can you tell me what these CAN IDs do on the E38 side? (120, 140, 170, 180, 2E0, 2F9, 3D1, 3E9, 3FD, and 4C9.)gixxer92 wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2026 10:44 pmI'm doing it many ways, custom E38/E67/E92 (possibly E90, I just mapped out the E90 today) ECMs and MaxxECU. I’m working through those IDs now, tracing the E38’s transmit and receive handlers against actual BINs so I can separate confirmed functions from spreadsheet descriptions.OldSkoolGP wrote: Fri Oct 16, 2026 8:53 pmI could ditch the E38, have MaxxECU run everything, and have no problem. I checked the spreadsheet against an E38 running OS12639270. There are some differences, but I can’t attribute them to model year without knowing the spreadsheet’s original OS and vehicle configuration. For example, it marks 0x149 as received, while this BIN’s normal receive table contains 0x199 and no 0x149. The 0x199 entry is disabled in this particular calibration, so its presence in the firmware doesn’t establish live traffic.
Some of the other differences concern which messages are enabled and which receive buffers they use. I’m keeping those configuration differences separate from the actual message IDs and payload meanings.
In parallel, I’m working through the Chrysler 300 SRT/8HP information, just started about an hour ago.
The goal is to establish the required messages, signal formats and timing, then determine what the E38 would need changed. That integration is still under investigation.
Which OS is your E38 running? That would let me check the IDs you listed against the configuration you’re actually using.

I'm actually running 12639270 in my Crewman. Tre-Cool helped customize it to play with the VZ modules in my Crewman. I'll run the same thing in my GTO as the test mule for this project.

Re: GM Can info & knowledge share
he will likely be selling another conversion box similar to the 10l stuff, so it'll probably fuck out at some stage just like his current units.OldSkoolGP wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2026 9:23 pmI've seen his stuff.gixxer92 wrote: Thu Oct 15, 2026 6:42 pm if you watch customecm on FB right now, he has it working with an e38 already.

Personally, if you can get a hold a binary file for a 8hp box, it should be pretty simple to get AI to change the CAN ID's needed to communicate between the ecu. That's what i have been doing to do a bunch of new stuff with the E38/6l80. as mentioned in another thread of mine i've got a bunch of new functions working in the ecu/tcm now including trans-brake in the 6l80e.
Im adding additonal data into existing id's & repurposing unused ones and renumbering them to receive data from wideband modules & keypads.
The requirement for building can gateways or middle-man modules are going to be limited if you can just make the stuff talk together natively.
