i have been building and tunning engines for over thirty years,i only work on nice high performance stuff and do everything myself including all the fabricating of manifolds sumps etc,THE PROBLEM IS that all the stuff i have been working on has carburetors on them ,they work well and my customers have won many titles and trophys,BUT this is a dying field and i want to start getting involved in the efi stuff,so i have an awsome laptop will purchase an injected comadore [open to suggestions][currently developing a new manifold for the beloved 304]i was told by a friend that i need to get a high speed comunication board, flash memory memcal, eprom emulater .uv eraser and some cables, conections to hook up to the car that i will buy and sent me to this site ,only problem is i can not see any link here to buy anything,i would greatly appreciate any advice -guidance,many thanks, cheers

Re: custom tunning
hi zok, only got on this forum yesterday myself but for near the same reason as you. Want to learn to real time tune my 355vr commodore. I had a look in the for sale section and found some of the equipment I would need, namely nvram. have a good read through there as some members are selling quantities of numerous bits and pieces.

Re: custom tunning
yeah zok the only place i saw anything was in the for sale, haven't seen anything retail.
I have gone and bought this book also, Designing And Tuning High-Performance Fuel Injection Systems from the book repository uk. $24.38au to give me a bit more of an understanding.
The 355 has already been tuned by some-one and is ok but I think it could be better.

Re: custom tunning
to vr-355,
mate i laugh at these tune houses that do these $150 tunes,to do a proper tune up on a carbureted car takes a good 4 - 5 hours [sometimes even longer ] on big horspower engines and some these guys are doing it in half an hour on an efi setup,i hear them drive past my shop all the time burbling away,so if you are prepared to go through the procceedure and be acurate your car will work so much better and make much more power with much less fuel,it takes some time but it is well worth it,one question if i may though,i see these custom tune files or bins as they are refered to ,do you know what program i need to be able to browse them?cheers

Re: custom tunning
you need to get the .XDF file to allow you to open the bin.

Re: custom tunning
no zok, haven't got that far yet. Have downloaded tunepro 5 but haven't tried to view anything with it yet. I read about the book I bought in this section somewhere and the poster said it would explain all the language used so i'm waiting for it to turn up before I do anything. Will keep reading all I can here though.
I think my 355 runs too rich so could benefit from a better tune. I plan on keeping it so it doesn't matter how long I take to get it right.
Cheers Mark

Re: custom tunning
To get some idea of what we are talking about read these two guides first. The fist getting started guide by VL400 is background info about the hardware, and the 2nd guide 'The basics of tuning a delco ECM with $12P' by holden202 is hands on using the software. There is much more to learn as you get more advanced, and you can have a read of some of the longer threads for other peoples projects, and see the 'members rides' section to see what we're doing. Were happy to give answers to good questions as you go.
