Re: VY PCM - 16269238
Actually thinking about, I reckon it prob can be flashed on board, surely holden would now do updates by just downloading software and not replacing the PCM? Its prob like LS1 PCMs, the engine has to be off etc Will be investigating this one though
The flash chip is a 29F010B -120JE so a 120nS, 32pin PLCC package, extended temperature range
Here is the datasheet for the flash memory chip... http://robotics.ee.uwa.edu.au/eyebot/do ... 29F010.pdf
Its still HC11 based I believe but would have memory paging to allow it to use 128k bins - VS ecotec started that, makes it much harder to disassemble and write code!

Re: VY PCM - 16269238
yeah if the tech 2 can program it surely we can hehe i have the tech 2 manual around somewhere with VY instructions ill have a look see what info is in there.probably wouldnt want to flash it heaps of times in a realtime tuning situation really even though these flash chips are good for 1000's of burns the access speed must get slower over time like your average eprom when you program them to many times
If Its Got Gas Or Ass Count Me In.if it cant be fixed with a hammer you have an electrical problem
Re: VY PCM - 16269238
Unless I've missed something I greatly doubt wether this is a "Better" PCM than the one it replaced, probably just cheaper to produce.
Apart from having a flash chip which thanks to VL400 we now have, it's pretty much the same as the old PCM

Nope not missed anything adrian, in terms of processing power they are no better. I guess the only advantage is you can flash in a tune without doing any mods to the PCM, but its locked like the new PCMs so need to get around that first. I mainly picked it up and posted a pic cause I was interested in the way the flash system worked using EEPROM and there seems to be a lack of info on the later systems.

ther IPCM-6F is reflashed using a Tech2, its reflashed to update for LPG tunes etc, i have done quite a few reporgram jobs on them, by removing the chip etc, VL400 if you want some bins & stuff i have for them ill email them, let me know

Re: VY PCM - 16269238
Tech-2 re flashes these units ......I did one a few years back in a VX for my old man with our Tech-2 ....need TIS CD and and all the goodies but they flash no prob at all... but also they are a 8 bit EEPROM 128 X 8 32 pin......ummmm nice thing is we can buy a 128 x 8 32pin NVSRAM .....who else is interested??? I also have a VX now.
Re: VY PCM - 16269238
Lads,
The early LT1's were also flash very much like this PCM. I would say that this PCM is a take off of the US product. TunerCat has a Flash Utility via the ALDL connector for the early LT1's and it would not surprise me if you could get this Flash Utility to work on the Holdens. The interface cable used is the same rs232 cable used for early Holden scanning.
The locking on the PCM should not be to much drama as I have info on the 256 algro's used for the seed key feature.
Emulation or realtime is quite possible.
Cheers
Mick

the VX-VY PCM is an IPCM6F, a completely different animal to the LT1

Re: VY PCM - 16269238
Would be interesting to find out how the knock circuits compare to those on a memcal.
With the introduction of the VX factory power of the V6 jumped from 147 to 152kw, I know driving my wive's VY that it is much toeir down low than my VT and feels more responsive.
Don't know if this was to do with improved knock detection/reaction allowing for more spark advance than was achievable in the VT or just a better algorthim for dealing with it in the code.
