engine change computer question
engine change computer question
Hi Folks,
How difficult is it to reset the engine disable feature on a PCM 16240018 BWCU module (this seems to be the most relevant info on the computer) when changing an engine without transferring the wiring harness?

If you have an eprom eraser, and an eprom writer, reasonably easy.
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

Thanks Antus,
Afraid I have neither of those - are they available/expensive?

Eprom writers (programmers) are pretty cheap, you can pick one up for about $30 on ebay.

if your not using the wiring harness are you referring to not using the car wiring harness or the engine ?
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Thanks for the info on eprom pricing fest.
Hi holden202 - I am posting this on behalf of a mate - the enging I believe is a 5.9 L v8 and is from a 95 SS commodore, and is going into a holden ute (which I hav'nt) seen.
We dont want to use the car wiring harness from the 95 commodore.
My apologies for not having all details at hand, I can get them when I see my mate sometime in the next few days.
Thanks for your interest.

Re: engine change computer question
ok well being that its a V8 Auto tune i guess the options are this:
1. if your using the auto from the VS which suits this motor then you can simply wire it into the ute and then just get the anti theft disabled in your tune and off you go.
2. if you are not planning to use the VS auto box then you are probably best off getting a VN/VP v8 wiring loom and using that, BUT this will mean the tune thats currently in the VS computer will not be able to be used.

Re: engine change computer question
Option 1 sounds by far the best way to go,
I will check if he has the VS auto, is there much involved in disabling anti theft?

Re: engine change computer question
not if you have an eprom eraser and burner, if you don't have one let us know, myself or some of the other guys on here would be happy to do it for a small fee if you post the memcal to us etc.
