Are you using an ACL Race series gasket or copper?

Re: My Delcoed Rides
nah can't get the acl ones anymore .... i am using a PAYEN brand gasket, time will tell i guess! out of the three options i can get through my mate he reckons its the best brand.
bit of an update, the gasket arrived yesterday and the head is now on and torqued up issue free! only the rocker gear to go then just bolt ons left.
now i just need to save my pennys for a set ot chromoly pushrods due to the length i need only being available in chromoly race ones!
atleast i know they'll never bend hehehe

Re: My Delcoed Rides
Payen gaskets have been around for donkeys ages mate http://www.acl.co.nz/News/News.html used heaps of them as a young apprentice back before repco sold out its manufacturing plants - (which got the staff together to keep them going calling themselves---ACL) - check where your gaskets were made - might be from this side of the ditch. Never had a problem with them. Looks like they're part of Federal Mogul these days
Build it, Race it, Break/Bend it ; Repeat.

Re: My Delcoed Rides
just had a look on the package, Kontich, Belgium! and yeah has fedral mogul on the package too!
its good to hear other people have had good experience with them.
i've never had any problems in the past with ACL race series or monotorque ones but i've never had 14.5:1 compression either! i think if this one fails its going to be MLS or copper or something next time.

Re: My Delcoed Rides
its update time
ok so got the motor mostly together, got her all painted up and started putting some of the accessories/sensors on it, get all i can done till i get the last of the needed bits.
on that subject, i have been trying to find a suitable water pump pulley to allow me to drive it all from a serpentine belt..... you might think this is alot of fucking around for very little gain, and your probably right
this goes back right to the beginning of this build when i got the eaton m90 blower for it, back then i worked out if i cut the nose off the water pump and use an electric one (which i had spare) i could then use a serpentine belt to drive the blower and use the alternator as the tensioner - from that came the setup below.
long story short, i am not putting a blower on the 202 anymore cause its too much fucking around, also the electric water pump shit itself so i put the old alternator and water pump back on and have been running it since and this has caused alot of battery charging issues, so i wanted to put the vr v6 alternator pictured above back on cause it works perfectly, so i had to find a way to get a serpentine belt water pump pulley happening.
through alot of searching on the web it turns out that a VT V8 was the first v8 to have a serpentine belt on it and hense has a pulley that looked suitable .... $32 on ebay and free post i had to try it!!
so in the above picture there is a 17mm spacer and about 15mm or so of washers packing it up .... so the picture isn't actually taken on the right angle but it is almost spot on with a straight edge across the pulleys!
i didn't really want to have so much of a spacer under the pulley cause it will put alot of sideways load on the bearings etc in the water pump, so as it turns out the water pump on the motor now is a short shaft and there is a long shaft option which is 19mm longer so my plan is to get one of them and then machine down the spacer a few mm to get the offset perfect
so very happy with that result, using all off the shelf parts other than the spacer which will pretty much never fail! just need to get the rockers done then i will put the balacner on and make final measurements then machine the spacer...
in other news i got my 2200rpm torque converter today so thats another big part ticked off and should make a world of difference getting out of the hole!
also got a set of ngk race spark plugs (ngk part # R5724-8 if anyone is interested) which is a 8 heat range plug, should be a bit more suitable for methanol and they cost $50 for 6 so they are reasonably priced. there is also 9 and 10 heat range but i'll start with these which are 2 up from the 6's normally in a petrol motor.
lastly thought i'd take some happy snaps of the new beast in all its freshness!
rockers and pushrods then i'm just about home!!

Re: My Delcoed Rides
Why did you stay so small on the converter for a mainly drag car?
Was the thought of other non-drag applications a consderation?
I would have thought something more like 4k would see much more et improvement.
Looking good, I like the sepentine setup.

Re: My Delcoed Rides
well i guess one thing is my cam doesn't need a huge converter, but also it was what i could get without having to get a custom one made.... it will be a bit of trial and error i guess, the upside is my brother is building a streeter 202 turbo and trimatic so i'll know if its going to be good or not by the time he needs a converter and if i decide to go bigger i'll sell it to him!
also im still new to all this drag racing stuff so we'll see
