Help with ecu on v6 to v8 conv

Post by Tonka4 »

hey this is a long story so here it goes

i purchased two cars a vr wagon. it was originally an executive with a buick auto, the last owner converted it to an ecotec with a t5 including vs body loom, bcm and key. he based it around a statesman and included the statesman dash and level 3 instrument cluster. i also purchased a vs v8 sedan which is an ex cop car this has also been converted to t5 manual. i doing the conversion they kept the auto ecu and loom but have cut some of the wires on the ecu plugs :?

so now i want to put the V8 t5 into the wagon and the ecotec t5 into the sedan.
i have a few things im not certain about. ( hope someone can help)
1. the security functions on the ecu's when i swap the engines not "talking" to the bcm
2. i'm hoping to keep the L3 instrument cluster in the wagon but unsure of the tacho and other fuel related displays?
3. the cut wires on the auto loom? i can give wire colours and pin locations.

the ecu numbers are:
V6
16210672
3.8l man pcm
16231438 BSTJ

V8
16195699
5.0l aut pcm
16240028BWCW

any help much appreciated :)

1) You will need to keep the VS and VR BCMs matching to the VR and VS PCMs as the anti-theft is different between the two. They are not linked like the VT and later, just the VR and VS data packets are different.
2) The dash should work fine still
3) prob best to provide details, but really it sounds like you just wanna swap the whole lot so just wire it back up the same way - if its not broke dont fix it

Hopefully that gets you started :) But post any questions and am sure people will try and help

Thanks VL400
From what the previous owner told me the vr wagon has a vs bcm in it now. I am happy to swap but will that affect the abs and airbags that are in the sedan but not in the wagon? I also read a post about an auto to manual conversion by turning of the auto fault codes so the engine light doesn't come on is this something Holden can do or is it more a forum help thing as at the moment the engine light globe has been removed and is like it back in there incase any other faults arise.

Thanks again sorry for so many questions

Not sure on that one, others might know though.

Holden cant turn off the fault codes, it will require the memcal EPROM to be reprogrammed. You can mod the bin yourself using TunerPro and the XDFs on thi site. The only issue of running a manual gbox using the auto PCM is getting the speed sensor to work.

Thanks VL400

i have decided to leave the BCM's where they are and swap the engine loom's, ecu and engines. So in doing this will i need to have the security functions turned off (VATS??) ??? With the speed sensor on the v8 at the moment it is working fine i have tested it using a gps and it seems to be very accurate. Will that still be the case when i put it into the wagon as it will be using a different BCM and instrument cluster.
and finally who can reprogram my EPROM to turn the auto fault codes off?

Sorry again for all the questions and thanks for all the help.
