Nice work on the serpentine belt, looks good. Any reason why you didn't just put a V belt pulley on the alternator?

yeah i tried that, the snouts are totally different and none of the 3 v-pulleys i had would go on it.

well i finally got the transmission from dad .... i don't really know alot about it other than it is a v8 trimatic that has been rebuilt and dad thinks "it probably has some different springs and bits" so anyways, pulled the pan off it just for some piece of mind before i put it in, found some dust and one or two dead bugs but thats about it :D

so with that sorted out i decided to start converting it to a 6 cylinder trimatic, so i test fitted my new torque converter and it didn't go on the splines! :wall:

my brother has a trimatic that he just got rebuilt so i took my torque converter to his place to see if it went onto his box and also to measure the input shafts.

this is my brothers box, and is a 6 cylinder trimatic, my converter goes on it no problems.

and this is the v8 one ...everyone i've ever talked to said you just put a 6 cylinder bellhousing onto them and they can be used in a 6 cylinder..... now either my box is different or theres more to it than that!

so the up side is i know my torque converter is the right one, problem now is i need to work out if i can get this input shaft swapped or something to do what i want.

Jayme, i might need to get the rest of that trimatic shipped down :P

could be setup for solid drive for speedway maybe as they dont run a TC they just go direct onto flexplate on an adaptor that drives the input shaft and pump some others work as clutched auto with a clutch and flywheel 4 6 and 8 cylinder trimatic all take the same TC as we used to fit 6 cylinder TC's into 308 to have higher stall and 4 cylinder ones into 202 for higher stall LOL

well from all the pics and info i can find on the net it seems to indicate that 4 and 6 cylinder boxes are identical but the V8 one has a different input shaft and possibly the outer spline is longer, so it looks like i will need to find a 6 input shaft and get that put in it.

yay for fun and games!

spoke to the local auto trans shop and they can supply and fit the 6 cylinder input shaft to the gearbox, and while they are there they'll also fit the 6 cylinder bellhousing, so im on the home stretch! by the time i get the tranny back i'll have the rest of the bits put on the motor and she'll all be ready to go in the gem and fire it up

Looking good, don't think you'll ever bend those pushrods.
