just done a cold start with the new tune and started instantly, straight to 14's afr's (same as when it was hot). and is quicker to rev when i stab it in neutral.

Waiting now for the missus to get home so i can go for a drive and do the ve tables and see what it's like up the road.

Looking promising so far. :|

It couldn't be this easy... surely. :hmm: It just doesnt feel like i've fiddled with enough things to tune it.

Here's the latest news in the saga...

went for a nice drive to log for the ve's, was running rich but was gettng a good log.
got home and took the laptop inside, got out the calculator getting ready for the job and thought.... I'll just go out and start it up again and check if it's still running good.

yup, sure enough, seeing 18/24, off the clock lean.... P.O.S !!! :wtf:

This is really testing my patience to say the least.

ohh, I wish all you blokes were here with your spanners right now and fix it for me. It's gotta be mechanical... surely.

I'm gunna win a fuel pressure tester in 8 minutes on ebay and take a look at it.

Just been searching google for" runs lean after hot restart" "runs lean when hot" and there is plenty of threads out there that are almost identical to my thread here, I haven't found a single one yet where they have found the problem..or cure. One guy, some Honda tech bloke with over 3,000 posts on the forum gave in after replacing almost everything. There's probably someone reading this right now giggling to themselves at my dispair, while they know what the trouble is and not telling... It's gotta be fixable..doesn't it?

I don't know.
I have similar issues with mine. It mormally idles a little rich but on occassion it will play up and start idling at about 18:1 AFR.
I am going to install a new fuel pressure gauge over the weekend and try and determine if all is ok from that end.

Is it possible to test the amount of volts the injectors are getting? Could I just stab the multimeter on the injector harness somewhere and check hot and cold. Or would it damage the ecu?

I doubt you will get any good information with a multimeter as the pulses will be high frequency and all the meter will do is measure an average voltage.
You will need a scope meter or oscillascope to measure check the waveshape and peak voltages.

As you's all know I am going crazy with this, so I have been just standing at the front of the car starring under the bonnet asking myself wtf changes in there after a hot shutdown that can make it run lean... going off my previous checks It looks like the engine still gives the same pulsewidth to the injectors so the only thing I can come up with is:

The battery might lose power while it's sitting there heat soaking without an alternator charging it.. even though the tunerpro says the injectors are giving the same pulse width.... are the injectors really opening the same amount of time if there is less amps getting to them. if that is the cause of the trouble, logic says that once the battery comes back up to the same charge volts it should run the same as before the shutdown.. (This could be it, I have managed to get the car to richen itself after hot restart by just revving it for a while) To test the theory, I might take the battery out and sit it on the ground and try running with jumper leads to the battery connections it the car and try it again. this should cancel the battery getting hot and if it works I'll just move the battery under the tray.

The fuel pressure regulator spring might be gone soft just because it is old and could be something going on with it when hot losing more pressure.. If the spring is soft... that would also explain why I need to punch in 0.06 kinjflow instead of the proper 0.039 for the 80lb siemens (ecu gets less fuel than it expects from the calculations)

Or One cylinder is dropping, somehow, I know a dead cylinder makes the wideband go lean because it has happened before.
