Yep, with that pulse width I dont think you should be that lean.

Nothing looks too bad in your tune - minimum pulse width for single fire upper and min should not be identical, but the injector BPW in the logs still looks ok so it wont be your problem.

Your 20-100kpa spark advance table should be smoother but again its not your lean problem.

Im still hedging my bets on your fuel reg.

Just done a cold start for about 20 seconds, wideband reading 13.5 nothing else changed.

I am just hoping now that I see a big change in fuel pressure hot/cold/hot restart. if not, I'm gunna have to fudge the tune to try compensate it.

Update: Actually 0.6ms is short. Maybe this is it, set the upper to 4, and see if the pulse width doubles.

It runs fine at 0.6 when the engine is cold or warm, and running hot but just goes lean on the restart. I'll change to the double fire and get the 1.2ms pulsewidths and check it again.

I cant see why you get a change in the injector PW value between single and double fire - it should be the same figure reported in TP. Are you using the flag to turn on single and double fire? If so then thats not where it should be adjusted for what you want to do. Just set "Run A/F Param - Minimum BPW for sync double fire fuel delivery (Upper Value)" to about 3.5 and "Run A/F Param - Minimum BPW for sync double fire fuel delivery (Min Value)" to about 3. You can play around with them, just make sure the upper value is always higher.

Now, the reason why the value does not change and how it all works. When in double fire mode and say the injector PW is reported as 2mS, on a 8cyl you will get an injection event on every 4th dizzy reference pulse - so double fire = 2 injection events per engine cycle and a reported pulse of 2mS. Now if you have the ECU setup to automatically switch to single fire mode (or actually a better term would be narrow pulse mode) below say 3mS the reported PW will still be 2mS - except the injection event will now be 4mS long and happens on every 8th dizzy reference pulse - single pulse per engine cycle. The reported PW in TP not changing was done so you dont need to check if single or double fire when looking at the injector PW (always assume its in double and let the ECU handle it) and so the TP injector DC calc is accurate (it needs to know if its single or double fire, the calc always assumes double).

The only item that is not included in the reported PW is "Injector - Injector Bias vs Battery Voltage", this is the time it takes for the injector to open vs battery voltage. It gets added to the actual delivered PW - so say your engine again needs a 2mS pulse and the table value for the current battery volts is 1mS the actual delivered pulse is 3mS long. Now if the ECU has switched to single fire mode you will get 5mS... the injector bias only gets added once as its the time it takes for the injector to open.

Clear as mud

Thanks mate, that is a good explanation... where do you learn all this stuff?

Is it possible my double/single fire flags could get crossed over? I mean, the ecu says single, but is really on double? and vice versa? it's like ther're opposite.

single fire flag giving 0.6ms, doublefire flag gives 1.2ms at idle.. I can't pick any difference in engine note by toggling between the 2.
is one any better or easier on the ecu than the other? would the single fire (the one with the big long shot of juice) be better at the small pulsewidths i'm at with idle with these big injectors?

Thanks.

Years back I got the shits with companies charging heaps for diagnostic work after buying a VL with a EFI V8 conversion, it had a CEL due to no speed sensor. I had no idea about EFI but it looked like fun ... kinda snowballed from there I guess

Ah so your changing the flags .... dont do that, and thats why the inj pulse width is changing. You need to leave it in double fire mode using the flags and just set "Run A/F Param - Minimum BPW for sync double fire fuel delivery (Upper Value)" to about 3.5 and "Run A/F Param - Minimum BPW for sync double fire fuel delivery (Min Value)" to about 3. Think of that as an auto single fire mode, helps idle with big injectors.

I got into it because I didn't/dont have,or want to pay someone 2 grand to sit in a chair/not even working up a sweat to do it for me.

A tuner sits there and charge big bucks for no real physical work... lol. I need to hammer in about 3,000 steel fence posts into hard rocky ground here on the farm by hand and bust my ass off for 4 weeks to make that 2 grand and they want to take that hard earned/sweaty cash for sitting in a chair with the only hard work of excersizing their fingers on the laptop.

yeah, I'm a tight barsted.... I mean, I only want it tuned bud... not buy a whole motor. ha ha
