Hi, Have a t5 conversion begging to go in my VR Auto V8 and have a couple of questions.
Is re-pinning the auto computer successful to make it suit the manual/can it be done ?
If I buy a manual computer and harness do I need to buy the BCM also to retain security ?
Can I tranfer the tune it currently has to a manual ecu
Can any one tell me exactly what I need to do to get it working without fault codes or high idles???
Am an old noob, any help truly appreciated

Re: VR V8 auto to T5 conversion
Yeah its certainly a possible solution, the VR auto and manual ECU connectors have slightly different key ways so need to trim them. Biggest issue is the speed sensor, the auto is reluctor while the T5 uses a hall effect sensor.VR=355 wrote:Hi, Have a t5 conversion begging to go in my VR Auto V8 and have a couple of questions.

Nope, your existing BCM will work with a manual ECU. The BCM and your key is linked so they must remain a pair. The ECU does not pair itself to the BCM so can just be swapped. This is another option instead of an expensive manual ECU .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=398 It turns a cheap VN/VP ECU in to a VR/VS manual ECU. Will need to burn a VR manual memcal though.VR=355 wrote:If I buy a manual computer and harness do I need to buy the BCM also to retain security ?
Will need to burn a new memcal with whatever changes you have on your memcal. The auto and manual ECU uses different code, $11 on auto and $12 on manual. A manual memcal will not work in a auto PCM and vice versa.VR=355 wrote:Can I tranfer the tune it currently has to a manual ecu
Would need to read your memcal, then use TunerPro and turn off all the auto trans related faults and burn the changes to your memcal. Here is the definition to edit your memcal if its $11 https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=634 . The idle will be the only issue due to the speed sensor differences, getting the VR auto PCM to read the hall effect sensor is on the list of things to do stillVR=355 wrote:Can any one tell me exactly what I need to do to get it working without fault codes or high idles???

Re: VR V8 auto to T5 conversion
Thanks for the info VL400. As long as the gearbox and rest of the conversion is in good condition I am going to go ahead with it.
Firstly I need to get my tune information off my current ecu. I have tunepro on my vista os laptop. Will this do the job with a data cable ?

The flashtool and a data interface will get the bin file off most (unless its a protected memcal, and even then it can read some of them too) .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=82

Re: VR V8 auto to T5 conversion
Thanks VL400,
Will have many more questions to as i'm still trying to get my head around it all, truly appreciate your help.
Does the VN/VP ECU plug straight into the VR auto harness, does it need to be a V8 ecu or does the 6cyl do the job, is the VR manual memcal freely available and 6 or 8cyl memcal useable ?It turns a cheap VN/VP ECU in to a VR/VS manual ECU. Will need to burn a VR manual memcal though.

No the VN ECU does not plug in, will still need to repin and mod the key way of the connectors - same as running a genuine VR manual ECU. The ECU can be 6 or 8 cyl, they are the same just memcal that changes. Will need to reprogram your Auto memcal to suit the VN/VR manual ECU - I assume its not standard though with your user name? The VN memcal EPROM is too small to take the VR manual bin file.
Standard bins are here so its easy for factory stuff .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3
So two options are..
Option 1 - Change to the manual ECU or VN/VP '808, repin your loom, reprogram the memcal (could be a big job depending on mods?)
Option 2 - Leave the auto PCM but turn off auto fault codes in your current memcal. Speed sensor to the PCM wont work unless you can install a reluctor type sensor.

No not a standard tune. Are reluctor style sensors available or used on other manual vehicles? googled and found hall type vss (http://www.magsensors.com/vss.html)

Re: VR V8 auto to T5 conversion
After trawling the net for the last couple of weeks I found a link on another forum to a product that can convert the signal from the manual and allow it to communicate with the auto pcm, $125.00 delivered. If it works (the post I found says it does and so does the manufacturer) I can see it will save a lot of time and money considering the cost of VR manual harnesses and ecu secondhand . Don't know if advertising someone elses' product is allowed but if anybody is interested PM me and I will give you URL for the site and the product I had to ask for.

Advertising products is fine, we are all for sharing information about what and were and how to do this stuff.
Have you read the FAQ? For lots of information and links to significant threads see here: http://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1396

Re: VR V8 auto to T5 conversion
Thanks antus. Details are:
http://www.healtech-electronics.com/
Product "SH-V4-2W Kit", as recommended by the manufacturer.
Dealt directly with the head office in Hungary as the Australian distributor cannot supply the custom kit, approx 11 day turnaround from time of order.
Will post feedback on the product when I get the gearbox conversion in.
