the vn calais
just thought id show yz this vn calais im picking up friday from the big smoke, provided i dont find any chassis damage when i get there. always loved the 2 tone vn. not the gramp spec one i was chasin, but clean and straight with the original calais wheels. good price too. alternator pulley looks a bit strange to me, but apparently its fine. long as the old buick gets me home and around to work and wotnot for a week or two, i dont care how it runs, but apparently its fine. all electrics work, one burn in one seat. full lights and bumpers off cut and polish straight away, reckon shell come up a treat...l67 house 300kg lighter then vx=win. leaving it clean and original wheels etc, go sleeper style. all excited n shit, another auto mission.

With a vehicle that old I wouldn't be surprised without badges, could have been painted a few times, or just de-badged from lil kids or even the owner as some like no badges at all!
Being 2 tone it's most likely calais, but again could have been painted a few times over & mocked up!
You should be able to check with the VIN number if it was released as a luxury I believe?
The LPG fitter was lazy, to just drill a hole in rear quarter, rather than the dual filler hole mount!

Re: the vn calais
well the bus made it back sweet as. pretty happy with it, sweet 110 cruise/c and didnt use much fuel, runs nice surprised with the ol buick.
the good: clean engine, seats have only one very small hole in the drivers, no cracks in the dash, all electrics work
, trans shifts smooth, air con is cold and has been reg serviced , new r/b catback 6x, original calais wheel, no rattles and the paint is all original, 12 months reg, very straight, immobiliser works.
the bad is:
usual small amount of rust starting to show at rear window, roof lining no good, has a few scratches, and drivers seat rail needs abit of fix.
so, this old girl is a little rough but she`s got bases for a nice daily sleeper. when this hotness goes away, ill be stripping all her lights, bumpers, door rubbers etc and give her a good cut n polish and see how she comes up. and get some odourless fish oil on the bit of rust. 808 rt board and usb comms is in the mail im pretty keen to have a snoop around the map based stuff.
so yeah once looking neat itll be time for BOOST
mods can you move this to rides?

Re: the vn calais
series one motor, i think they have the temp senders at the back of the inlet manifold, if so you may need to re-route them to the front for the L67 yeah yeah not sure on that one, but like you say very nice basis for a sleeper project!

Re: the vn calais i hope...
good question. think im gonna use use the 4l060e, but with the transgo 4L60e-HD3 kit, which includes the vacuum line pressure mod which eliminates the need for pcm controlled line pressure. ive been in contact with monster transmissions in the us currently waiting on a quote for a rebuild kit including the hd3 setup instead of the electronic shift kit. looks like it can be landed for around 600, pretty good value. so ill be keeping an eye on your trans rebuild thread nigel!The1 wrote:keep the progress updatedyou going to keep the auto and spice it up a bit for the L67? or go T5 or something?

Re: the vn calais
Nice parts list. I'd add all alloy accumulator pistons and suss out how to do a roller shaft conversion. Instead of having bushes input/ output shafts they would be on Torrington rollers. Just frees up negatives from thrust a tad. Also I'd be sleeving the beast too.
Ls1 tech forums has great info from one of their sponsors finish line transmissions regarding performance mods
