Ok i know that i am most likely going to get either no response or shot down in flames but its worth a shot.
I have absolutely no tuning experience and a very limited understanding of what is and is not possible but i am very eager and willing to learn.
I'll start from the top I have a workshop specialising in turbo conversions for v6 commodores and have developed a DIY turbo kit that i want to sell online.
What i wanted to know is if there is any possible way a "safe" tune can be made that i could include in the kit in the form of either a nvram setup or with standard memcals re-written. I'm confident that there is not going to be 1 tune for all due to the different models but maybe could be standard tune for each individual model with same spark tables etc for each motor (buick and ecotec) but everything vehicle specific just left standard.
Now the second part of the question is if that is possible who would I commission to make these tunes?

With the varying mods people would have done when getting to the stage of purchasing a turbo there would be no tune fits all, you would only offer it i guess to suit one level of mods most likely stock engine with just a few psi, just like stock L67's per say. For cost effectiveness for your packages it would be best id say to tune it yourself.

Re: Long Shot? holden v6 turbo tune
What I'm trying to achieve is a complete turbo conversion kit so that all the end user would need to install it and put there Memcal/NVRAM in and away you go. I would have the initial tune made on a car with the exact same kit installed ofcourse I know that every motor is not the same and there would be slight differences due to wear and what not but if it were a very "safe" ie rich tune that would account for that.
I cant see why its not possible it would be similar to buying a header and exhaust package and getting a pre made flash tune which is a common conversion done by many performance shops.
For those who wanted to go further and run more boost I'd of course advise them that the generic tune would not suit there needs and they would need a custom tune.
Surely this isn't a massive ask I can't see why it's not achievable maybe someone could advise me if my thinking is wrong?

Re: Long Shot? holden v6 turbo tune
yeh a nvram with a base tune would be cool, how many people would do there own realtime tuning though if they wanted more boost? They'd just end up back at the dyno tuner, not trying to put you down just trying to see market viability. I guess the cool feature of it would be that it comes with a stock tune so to speak and can be realtime tuned. Something to "Sell it" feature wise. Im not the expert on FI here im sure others would have better input.

Which model V6 are you looking at do, I'll assume VS-VY V6 ecotec?
There would not be a one tune suits all models, as they all have different base tunes and hardware.
ie. VS & VT are completely different software/hardware, but at least memcal based so easy change. VX & VY for N/A V6 are both flash based and same hardware, but again different programs in the ECU and smaller tables not as suited to boost.
So if you are looking at a kit to cover the Ecotec, there are at least 4 base tunes so far, and maybe a couple extra for VS due to 2 different Autos being used during this model and several different PCM's.
If you are doing the kit for manuals as well, you have another 4 different tunes required, as manual and Auto tunes are different.
While it is definitely possible, you would want some very clear disclaimers, as these vehicles are now 8-16 years old, people fitting turbos probably already have mod's, a "safe tune" would need to be far from ideal. At least this would give them a tune to drive to a dyno centre to get a real one.

Re: Long Shot? holden v6 turbo tune
i would say take the time to learn the basics of tuning. that way you could offer a 1 hour street tune with each package. equip yourself with the nvram to suit the different models, a burner and a bunch of eeproms with adapters. you can either disable the bcm`s on the later models or tune from logs. assuming all your really trying to do is offer a safe base tune it would not be hard to focus on the key points of timing and fuelling leaving the rest of the tune as stock. if your really wanting to offer the complete package it would be well worth it not to mention your gaining a valuable skill. just my opinion. like yoda and the1 have said whats good for one might run like a dog and ping its head off on another, if this happens your not gonna move too many conversions. if our dealing with maf based models theres another issue you would need to offer an upgraded maf and/or extended maf tables to go with the tune/conversion a turbo setup is gonna max things out pretty quick. just thinking out aloud

assuming safe boost of 6psi or less, maf should be ok.

Re: Long Shot? holden v6 turbo tune
I'm hearing all of this and appreciate all of your feedback guys I'm currently running my test car with standard tune and bumped up fuel pressure without a maf. Of course its not running like a dream but it's quite drivable even on boost under light throttle conditions. I was planning on supplying a mafless tune currently the kit comes with standard 7psi setup.

I assume if you're running without a MAF it is VR or earlier, as everything post this ran MAF.
The only way at this stage to run MAF on a later tune (VS+) is to use Kalmaker software at this stage.
Which model is the kit developed for?

Re: Long Shot? holden v6 turbo tune
There are 2 different kits ive made them for each motor so ecotec or buick motor. The particular one im talking about is actually on a vs ecotec its running without maf or iat hooked up i did this as i read in one of delcowizzards posts cant remember which forum but he stated that without the maf connected the computer would switch to a backup tune based off the tps. and the reason i didnt connect the iat sensor is i was told that this way it would assume a reading of 5v meaning cold conditions so alot of fuel would be dumped in (well something along those lines cant remember exact wording).
To be honest im considering hooking up the maf and iat to see if it runs better the car is only running 5psi of boost atm.
