Hi, hoping someone would be able to help me with an ls1 conversion I am doing.
I will be using all the wiring etc. just as it came out of a vt ss straight into my Impala, the only change I will be making to the wiring side of things will be to (hopefully) ditch the instrument cluster and use separate gauges so they will be able to fit into the stock dash.
My question is how would this be possible, as I know the engine will not run without the dash connected, and how and where would I pick up signals for the tach, speedo, oil, coolant etc?
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

Re: Ls1 conversion dash question
you can run it with out the dash
you will need VATS turned off
pick up tach etc straight from the PCM its pretty simple

Hi,
as long as you are using 12200411 PCM its an easy wire up.
You will need to wire up the low speed cooling fan, engine check light and tacho feed.
You will need to turn off VATS and cam bus and change all the fault codes you want to use the engine check light.
I have a engine in a test frame I set up for the uni.
all we used was a VY engine harness and connected all the other wires as required.
the test frame uses after market tacho, oil pressure and water temp guage.
as we dont use a bcm or pim we had to connect two wire in the pim plug for starter to work.
If I can find the info I have I will post it

Nice pdf apples!!
i assume the fan and MIL wires run the low side of the circuit ?
will be quite handy when it comes time to LS1 the gemini
i've just recently been benching my PCM with HP Tuners i think its nearly as ready as it can be without trying it on a motor, in not sure what this can bus disable is though ?

No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Yes I have some VY wiring diagrams I have change to show the exrtas but the pc have taken a dump will be fix soon.Holden202 wrote:i assume the fan and MIL wires run the low side of the circuit ?
just turn off the fault codes and fault light so the pcm stops trying to talk to other electronics now not fitted eg bcm, pim, dash and abs.Holden202 wrote:i've just recently been benching my PCM with HP Tuners i think its nearly as ready as it can be without trying it on a motor, in not sure what this can bus disable is though ?

Re: Ls1 conversion dash question
All you need is engine harness and charging/starting harness, and PCM of course....
Way too many people get caught up with the pim ect....
Turn off VATS and away you go...
Tach from Pin J2-10 brown wire....
Temp sender screwed into drivers side head ...
Oil pressure can be picked up from sump ...blanking plate can be drilled and tapped .
Alternator Light and start are part of start/charge harness...plug sits on drivers side engine bay . Two wires only...
If you get stuck give me a PM or email ....thumpa73@hotmail.com
Have done plenty ......Can program security for beer!!!
