VN safety neutral switch
VN safety neutral switch
Hey Everyone,
I have just put a th400 into my VN (which was original a manual) and a B&M shifter, i was wondering if there will be wiring somewhere for the safety neutral switch on the shifter ? or do i need to run it through the ECU ? also is there anything in the tune i need to select for auto ?
Cheers,

Re: VN safety neutral switch
The B&M shifters normally have a spot for a couple of micro switches for reverse lights and P/N.
You do also need to send a signal to the ECU so it knows its in P/N or gear, pin B10 needs an earth when in P/N.

Thanks Mate,
Yea i have switches on the shifter, so i go straight from the switch on the shifter to the ecu ? will it know straight away not to start in gear or do i have to change something in the ECU ?

No, you need to have a relay that cuts off the starter motor while in gear still. The ECU just needs to know if its in gear or not so it can (mainly) adjust the idle to suit, it does not have any control of the starter motor.

Re: VN safety neutral switch
you should be able to use the original shifter wiring and just put lugs on them to suit the b&m shifter, all the rest should be right then.
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Well thats the problem i cant find the original wiring for the shifter because it was a manual, i had a look on an auto and the plug was under the center dash area, but i cant find it on mine anywhere. unless i didnt look properly
When i wire it to the ECU will i have change anything in the ECU to bump up the idle or is it already set to do that ?

Re: VN safety neutral switch
the reason the ECU needs that wire is so it can do that for you (iac changes etc)
i didn't realise it was a manual, in that case you will have to run the wires yourself! i guess the start in gear wire is up to you, the only one the ecu needs is grounding of the above mentioned wire, and you'll need to find the tranny reverse switch wires and hook them up too.

Finally got around to wiring the P/N switch on the weekend, thats all sorted,
Excuse my stupidity, how do i send the signal to the ECU (pin B10) ???

Re: VN safety neutral switch
Using wire?
Pin B10 just needs to see a ground when in P/N.

Re: VN safety neutral switch
Haha damn i was just using a bit of string.
My mate that usually helps me with this stuff is away for work so i thought i would have a crack at it myself
