E38 vats relink

Post by vn5000 »

Does anybody know how or have experience resetting vats on an exchange pcm for a ve 6.0 2008 ss ute.The pcm has been programmed with a copy of the original bin.
Apparently there is a vats auto learn procedure that involves cranking the engine and waiting 10 mins repeated 3 times.
The problem im having is that it wont crank. The dash says engine immobilized. If i put the original pcm back in all is good.

easiest way is with efilive/hptuners or tech2
it should have automaticly link but sometimes it doesnt
you may need to send it back or find someone with efilive/hptuner

try this :Turn key on and try to crank(it will not start). Leave key on and security light should go out in 10 minutes. When light goes out turn key off for 5 seconds. Repeat those steps 3-4 times. It should start then. Just make sure the key is off before you start it when finished.

Thanks mate ,ill give it another go.
Have you ever done this on a ve v8 commodore before,if so did the starter engage when you try to start it ,as mine wont even crank, and has a code P1649.I have a feeling its not relearning the vats code because the pcm is not getting a starter signal.
Cheers

if its anything like the VZ alloytec, it has autostart which means the pcm actually controls the starter motor, you will find if you tap the key in the start position then let it off it will actually crank the motor till it starts, if it fails to start within about 8 revolutions it stops (found this out when i ran out of fuel once) if the ve v8 is the same as this that will more than likely be the reason its not cranking at all as it wont unless its happy with VATS.

I doubt the starter motor not being engaged would affect the process - so long as you signal the pcm what your trying to get it to do as described I reckon it will work. Let us know how you go!

Thanks Darcy ,im sure the vin is right, and if you were to relink vats i think you would need a new licence.

Holden 202 ,do you mean keep flicking it between on and crank until it starts to crank, interesting ill give it a go.
