Re: VS S3 Manual Log - Problems Or Normal
yeah thats correct, get the car up to temp then park it at idle with the laptop logging so you can see current iac steps and just screw the throttle stop out in till the IAC drops.
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Oh and also check that the throttle cable has not been adjusted incorrectly so it is preventing the throttle from closing all the way. It should have some slack in it.

Throttle stop in to allow more air in so that the iac steps reduce.
Bigger cam, less vacuum at idle so won't pull as much air for the same throttle settings, same thing for some idle iac settings need to be increased ie ac on, fan on as the number of steps will have less affect due to lower vacuum (higher MAP) at idle.

Re: VS S3 Manual Log - Problems Or Normal
Thank you all for your assistance.
Good old DTC 49 is back, but it doesn't make any difference to the engine at all.
Throttle cable loose, and cruise cable loose. I can easily move both cables sideways without the throttle moving.
I tried adjusting the throttle stop out (less throttle), didn't make any difference and steps still won't go any lower than 60 ish. Even had 0.015" clearance between screw and throttle stop.
I tried adjusting the throttle stop in (more throttle), that made a difference, but the RPM went up with the IAC steps. Tried a bit more. More RPM and more steps.
I've set it back to where it was now. Is the stepper motor adjustable to the throttle spindle, or is it set as part of the throttle body?
Maybe I'll look into the memcal
Cheers

Try adjusting in then key off, then restart. As you are winding in TPS will increase and possibly move out of idle mode and add more steps. This could be a problem, especially as you wound it out first.

Thanks very much Yoda69. That tricked it. Will take her for a test tomorrow and see if it makes any difference with the problem.
Here is the log just now.

also revving about 2000rpm resets the IAC thats what i normally do when changing that stuff.
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: VS S3 Manual Log - Problems Or Normal
Thanks. Tomorrow it'll be set. We'll see what happens with the rev run on now that the IAC is down where VL400 said.
Hopefully it's fixed, or at least a lot better.
Give me a cammed engine with a holley, a box of springs (depending on vacuum or mechanical secondary), and a heap of jets and leaded petrol to read the spark plugs, I'd be happier.
That's why we need the help of more clever people than me.
Thank you all for your help.

Re: VS S3 Manual Log - Problems Or Normal
Not holding my breath that it will be fixed, it might but not that hopeful
Was just something I noticed in the log you posted that needed a tweak to get back in spec before trying/adjusting other things like yoda mentioned.
