have removed the vr auto engine harness and fitted the vn harness and noticed there is no wiring for the trans.
do u need to add any additional wiring to use a th350 or th400?
whats the deal with the speedo with the vr auto dash using one of these transmissions??
any help would be great

about the only wiring you'd need for one of them would be if it had a electric kickdown ..... as far as speedo sensor let me know when you work it out
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

yeah the speedo will be interesting, youd need to connect a pulsing module to the TH400's speedo hole, the run that wire into a speedo corrector and then to the dash, then adjust corrector to suit. you can get speedo pulsers that hook up th the end of speedo cables, so maybe thatd be the go.

Re: vr auto loom swap to vn
ok what about this speedo sensor for the th400?
#64. Speed Sensor and Rotor (speedometer VSS) for the TH400 transmission. Comes with the O-ring. Cost $194.00 for both.
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/speed ... va.htm#400
would this connect directly to the vr auto dash?
or would i still need a corrector?

I used a small inline sender from a company in WA - http://www.aisat.com.au/. Screwed on to the TH400 and gave a hall effect output to the 808 and allowed the speedo cable to screw into it to keep my dash happy (VL). Was only around $60 from memory, they prob have one thats not a pass through type and you can just wire the signal to both dash and ECU like a VR manual is.

it would work with no corrector but the speedo will be wrong
you need the corrector to calibrate it. VR auto and manual both have exactly the same dash speedo so you just need a square wave sender. that one youve linked may not be the cheapest way to do it but it will work.

i believe that #64 kit is the same as whats in a VR or VS auto, Apples told me you can get a extension housing of them and put it onto T350 to get VSS, that is my plan but im not sure about TH400, but if you can measure the hole it goes into i can tell you if the VR/VS extension housings i have here have the right size sensor in them

thanks for the replies guys.Holden202 wrote:i believe that #64 kit is the same as whats in a VR or VS auto, Apples told me you can get a extension housing of them and put it onto T350 to get VSS, that is my plan but im not sure about TH400, but if you can measure the hole it goes into i can tell you if the VR/VS extension housings i have here have the right size sensor in them
still weighing up which trans i use. so i cant measure anything yet.
leaning towards the th400 as its strong in stock form. will be treated to full manual and boost capable convertor.
was just told the th700 speedo sender will fit into the th400 but will need be generous with silicone ??? can anyone confirm this?
i guess that will fix the dash and the ecu if true

Been reading everything i can about everything on this forum for ages now joined (logically lol) anyhow i'm trying to help a mate out with his vh which has a 304 and th400,
trying to talk him into throwing some cash into modding the 808, but i digress... Was keen to know about that inline sender you got, i went to the site
and see no obvious choice, would you have the model number? Also would the detent switch be switchable through the 808?
Thanks

Maybe give them a ring and see what they have, I cant recall what the part number was now sorry - it was back in 2003ish!
You could use a flex output from an '808 running 12P to switch the detent through a relay. Could also maybe grab a WOT switch from a VL (its a small lever switch mounted to the accel pedal assembly which may fit a VH pedal).
