ok maybe led is why the light doesnt go out completely when the engine is running i have a led for cel and it does the same thing strong and bright when ign on and drops to a low glow when engine running ..

now whilst im on the wiring hunt i have 5 wires left in the loom that dont have a home im thinging the 2 black and white are earths , there would be 1 or 2 that belong ti the tranny loom , lock up and ?
ill post a pic and maybe some of your will identify them by there colours

as im slightly colour blind im not sure of colour purple which i think is tranny lock up ,, and the others ?

ekdave1962 wrote:ok thanks Holden202 it was the light connected the wrong way once it change to I termial as neg , the light worked, its bright when ign on and fades although doesnt completely go out, but with that curcuits in place votes are now 13.2 at idle and 14 + with a few rpms which indicated charging ,

as for the large active yeah im thinking your correct it should go to some sort of curucit protection ( fusable link ) have them there but not sure which one it would have connected too , will investigate and hopefully find its correct location ,,

Thanks
David
The fading light is normal for the alternator circuit, i get the same thing on my alternator and CEL lights in the gemini.

when you say large active im not sure what you mean, if you mean the screw lug on the back of the alternator with the big red wire on it, then this goes directly to the +ve battery terminal with no fuse etc, but the little wire on the alternator plug that is S i thought was just a small gauge wire that went to the +ve battery with a fusable link in it from factory and this is like the alternators multimeter so the regulator will regulate the voltage at ~14.2v
Jayme wrote:haha make a fool out of me then !! from what I can tell it depends on the type of LED and alternator, ive heard of some led's that just dont flow the current to get some types of alternators to charge. others say it works with an LED but wont charge till you rev it. others still say it works perfect.
jayme you may recall the issues i had at casino drags with alternator charging and battery getting drained when turned off ..... this was with the oroginal torana alternator in the gemini, i had the same issues it wouldn't charge till you revved it, but also there was the flatten issue, i put the vr commodore alternator back in the gemini and it all works fine and has no issues charging and doesn't go flat.

Dave, what part of the loom are these wires on ?

yeah the positive from the alt which i have directr to battery feed ..

the left over wire are in the body loom but connect to the engine loom, remember i hacked wire out of the auto plug before i realsied it had wrong plug in hand ,, so on the auto loom there is a few wires not connected , i cant start it in nuetral only park and the then the other are for the torque lock up .

ps i conneect the 2 black and white wires to earth and my knock sensor fault has disapeared .. it seem to run ruffer now thou and back fires at rpm and seem to have dropped a cylinder as the left bank smokes , connected std ecu and it ran fine ?

oh well its all a learning curve hey ..

im thinking the sts $12 tune mostlikely need adjusting to suit the stock vn motor

Jayme not sure ill have to check on other lappy ..

Holden202 i think the wires ran to the intrument loom but i cut them out months ago and pulled them to the exterior and roller them up .. there long enough to reach back in side .. most likely a trip meter wire in there also .. the only on on concened about is the tranny lock up at this stage which i thing i can run straight to ecu

TCC is grey/red on the diagram i have and is pin A7 on the ECM.
for TCC to work you will also need to supply +12v from the ignition to the tranny on the plug on the box it is pink/blue.

ok thanks Holden202 , i grounded 2 black white wires but in doing so the knock sensor started working so ill sperate then and see which on makes it work ,,
i have power to tranny so its just the tcc lock up and im guessing the neutral wires i have to sort out ,,wont get to i now untill the weekend ill get some one who isnt colour blind to identify the colour on loom and tranny and see where that leads me.

thanks David

also jayme the tune i was running was not the one u mentioned it was .. hmmm $12_ose_bvdl or something like that changes to the one u mentioned and it seem a lot happier .. could also just have something like a dud plug or lead but havent had a chance to investigate too much, as i was ment to be getting it ready for paintimg
