Delco EFi on G200 Gemini - Warning complete Noob

Post by RebornGem »

Hi Guys

Ok im a complete noob to this so please be patient with me :)

Got a G200 powered Gemini Coupe

Just picked up a delco, originally GEMWRX's tuned for a G200
A wiring loom from a commodore
Got a Rodeo Manifold, with lots of sensors that i have no idea about
RB Gemini electronic Dizzy

My plan is to try and get a Manual JE Camira EFI wiring harness and all the sensors i can

But i have no idea really what I'm after sensor wise, obviously i have found the JE wiring diagram and have the list but any further info would be appreciated
MAT
MAP
TPS (i guess i use the one on the Rodeo manifold)
Coolant Sensor
IAC Valve ?
Dizzy (i have an RB dizzy i can use ? will that work?)
Oxygen Sensor
Am i missing anything ?

I would really just like some advise / help to figure this out, and yes i have googled and searched too :)
Cheers

sounds like you have most of it covered, Antus should be able to give you some more details, hes got one of these in his gemini!

You might not need to get that loom if you allready have a decent VN/VP commodore one. You would need to remove the coilpack connectors and add the camira module ones, and there might be some work with the fuse and relay side of things too. Ive got little experience with commodore looms, so cant comment further. Have a look at a VN/VP wiring diagram and check the power feed side of things.

I would try and make up an adaptor to fit a JE camira or N13 Pulsar Throttle Boddy to the Rodeo manifold. That will give you suitable TPS and IAC. The Rodeo TPS is a switch type, and you need an analog 0-5v type for the delco.

You havnt mentioned speed sensor. There are adaptors you can get such as this one:
http://www.phoenixmechanical.com.au/pag ... pters.html
which will set between the mechanical speedo cable and the trans and provide a suitable signal. Ive got one them on my gemi coupe, but.. there wasnt quite enough space in the trans tunnel, so you need to create a little extra room around where it connects to the box. You dont strictly need a speed sensor, but it is better as then the car can tell the difference between coasting at speed and idling on the spot.

The RB Distributor in theory should work, but I have not seen it done yet. There are 2 chips inside it. One is the sensor for the reluctor (keep this) then the next one around is the ignitor in a non-efi system. Cut the link between the 2 and take the signal from there and feed it to the camira ignition module, which then connects to the coil and the delco. If that doesnt work, or proves to be unreliable, then you would need to go coilpacks, with an ignition module from the usa and a home brewed trigger system... something like this: https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopi ... dis#p21867

The stock Rodeo or JE Camira or N13 Pulsar or VN/VP Commodore injectors will all flow enough fuel, and fit in that manifold.

You will also need a high pressure (EFI) Fuel pump, and EFI Fuel reg. You could use a stock regulator, or get one with a pressure guage on it which is nice when things dont work right to see at a glance if you have fuel supply problems or not. If you have a gemini low pressure in tank fuel pump you can feed a surge tank and then pick up from there with an EFI pump (which is what I have).. though I assume it might also be possible to suck it out the tank directly at high pressure or feed the low pressure output straight in to the high pressure pump? Maybe someone else can verify if they are good options or not.

Good luck!

Most EFI pumps don't like lifting fuel, which is why they're in the tank (along with the cooling advantage too). A lift pump (as the name implies) will happily suck fuel out of a tank and up a foot or two, but EFI pumps don't self-prime very well.

The only problem with using a lift pump straight into the EFI pump is that if your tank gets low and/or you corner hard, the lift pump will suck air for a moment, which will lower rail pressure. EFI tanks are baffled or have an inbuilt pot for this reason, to prevent the pump from sucking air.
If you keep the tank level up it's not an issue though - but if you're going to run it on the track then some form of surge tank is a good idea.
Carbs keep their own fuel reserves inside, so aren't affected by momentary pressure drops like EFI.

There's a guy on ebay who sells very reasonably priced alloy surge tanks, around $80 with fittings from memory.
If you've already got an in-tank pump, you could just replace it with a high pressure pump from a commodore or similar, your tank might already have a baffle/pot arrangement if there's a pump in there from the factory.
If you're looking for an external EFI pump, the EFI VK/VL used an external pump which makes a great conversion candidate - that's what I'm using.

Ok So i got my hands on a few more bits

Picked up a complete JE Camira Harness, Including Dizzy, coil, and all sensors ... oh and throttle body just in case

As far as fuel is concerned i picked up these
Image

Speed Sensor
I have a VSS on the way, a little unsure of its PPR, its off an MR2 ... hmmm well we'll see if its gonna do

IAC
As the Rodeo Throttle Body doesn't have a built in IAC, got dad on to this and those engineering skills strike again, cut and shut the Camira throttle body and presto !!!

Comments / thoughts appreciated :)

Nice iac adaptor. I saw the pic and started getting excited that you had found the part that would solve a lot of peoples IAC issues for conversions.. then I saw it was a one off. Nicely done though.

Its not going to solve the issue with the rodeo TPS though, as that is a switch type and you need an analog 0-5v type.

You should be able to use an early gemini in tank electric pump to feed that surge tank fine, and from there the efi pump will work well.
