New to tuning.

Post by Fireblade.954 »

Ok, so I'm new to tuning. And I've read the getting started many, many times. To have an understanding before asking too many questions... So here they are. I have 2 mates with Holden/Buick engines. One is an 808 and one is ecotec.
If I want the cheap way with no real time tuning. Can I program the factory EPROM one time by removing it from the ECM, and using an EPROM programmer
Will it show in tune pro through the scanner?
So I could use a 12p, and that will give an improvement.
Will I need to de solder the EPROM one time then install a socket?
Thanx guys, any help is appreciated.

yes you can re-program the stock eproms, but you will need a uv eraser to erase them first.

$12P stock bins probably wont really make any improvement on a buick without work tuning it for better performance etc.

ecotec has a different computer and wont run $12P but if you want to convert the motor to run an 808 then you can use $12P with it, and there is actually a tune i made for that combination.

also note to put $12P onto an eprom, you will need a vr memcal as the eprom in vn/vp is not large enough to fit it.

ok, i understand. thankyou....
so if i use a tuned 12p someone has already done(i think ive seen yours) with similar mods, that will make a diff yeh?
and is it a good idea to convert an eco to 808 ecm? is there much involved?
i guess that would do away with the bcm though, so i could transplant the donk with less pain.
also what bin do you use for ecotec?
once again thanx for the help.

whether its better or not depends on your application are you wanting NA or not, are you wanting sequential injection or are you planning on running manual t5 or getrag or auto hydraulic or electronic
transmissions are all factors as for easier the 808 looms are easier to adapt to other vehicles less wiring to be done.
as for whats involved its a matter of changing all sensors over except crankshaft, tps, iac drilling a hole in the upper intake manifold for the intake air temp sensor and making a reducing bush to suit the coolant temps sensor change over
as for a bin if its completely stock including exhaust the attached bins got a bit different accel enrichment or if its close to the ecotec in holden202s description in this link https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... ?f=7&t=375 id use that both are $12P code
and heres the link to the xdf to read it https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... f=27&t=356.
