hi guys need a bit of help looking at upgrading my s1 vn v6 th700 to vx ecotec 4l60e + turbo ....
bit of a introdution..
86 navara 4wd s1 v6 th700 .. bit of head work .. 2 1/2 exhaust.. had lpg.. stock diffs 4.8 or 4.6 i think..
0 to 60 runs like a rocket ... on the hi-way 14L - 100ks revs 2500..
parts collected so far..
just got a wrecked vx with 40 000ks on it ..
rear diff h23b 3.9 dont know if it will fit yet . told it will..(still looking for front 3.9)
what i want to do (if it will work)
run the ecotec / 4l60e .. fuel tank .. dash cluster .. key/steering wheel .. abs .. brake booster .. rear disc brakes .. small single turbo
stuff ive found..
the 4l60e will not bolt up to the th700 adapter . found an adapter but its 2" longer but can run a speed sensor (there is no speed sensor in it now) http://www.advanceadapters.com/products/pn-50-0405/
need to fab a new exhaust so thinking might make turbo manifold as im going..( told a GT3582 was the turbo to look for ? )..
Now were the Q's start...
do i put all the vx wiring in the truck and bypass the airbag..abs if i dont use it..
can i tune the speedo ?
can i get a usb set up so i can tune with laptop?
thanks in advance for any help ..input.. info
Dwayne

Takeling a pretty big job there, any reason for running the fueltank, key, steering wheel ect?
If your wanting to run the vx loom theres a few ways to skin the cat, run the standard bcm and key all adapted in to the vehicle, you can also use a bcm simulator that doesnt need the keyhead but will retain features such as temp sensor, low fan speed ect. You can run the vx computer with no vats, so no bcm functions or you can run it on the vn computer and keep your th700.
As far im aware the th700 and 4l60e are the same box (length, width, boltpatterns, stall) other than the electronic side of things. The fuel setup you have now should be fine for the ecotec but with boost you can use the l67 fuelpump. The 4l60e runs an electronic speedo so you may need your cluster modified or run something like a vdo electronic speedo thats fully programmable.
If running the vx dash you can connect to the speedo and change the ppk code to suit the pulses per kilometer of your setup.
You could rewire the whole ute but you could also splice it in to your origanal wiring or use a conversion loom
The way you connect with a laptop will vary depending on the ecu you use as the later stuff have a connection point you can plug in to with a usb/serial cable.
To run abs you would need to fit speed sensors to all the wheels and stuff, not an easy job.
I think iv covered most of it?
Personally id use the vn ecu and th700 It is maffles and alot more tuning capabilities or the vx pcm with no vats

hi mate yer going to be a big job...girl keeps saying get rid of it all and get a new one..lol wheres the fun in that...
fuel tank in there now is 50l vx is 75l .. i was thinking vx tank /pump to a surge tank use the fuel pump on there now should be more than enough for a turbo.
id like the steering column just for the new key, new indicator/washer wiper levers and cruise control.. if i can get rid of the air bag id use the vx steering wheel.
if it fits id use the whole dash and centre console or just the cluster and some fiberglass works to..
i did see that the vn ecu could run the ecotec .. it would be a lot less work but my th700 is tyred/leaky ... so comes down to cost - recon the th700 or get the apdapter .. the th700 and 4l60e are the same at the motor end the other end th700 is 4 bolt and the 4l60e is 6 bolt to the transfer case .. also with the apapter i can run the speed sensor.. in the ute now there’s no engine light I put one and it comes up with the speed sensor fault code..
just had a look at the abs stuff looks like a full nightmare .. will cross that off the list lol..
so if i got the vx ecu and bcm .. can you turn the abs and airbag fault codes off ?
or the vn ecu it cant run the 4l60e ? is there any way around that ?
all just comes to cost ..surge tank $50-80..adaptor $300..turbo $300-$500.. ecu $???
thanks for the reply

Correct, the 808 wont run the electronic auto, but can go to VR auto loom and PCM to get a MAP based setup and control the 4L60E - it will also read a reluctor speed sensor. Will need to setup a tune for it though.billybobau wrote:or the vn ecu it cant run the 4l60e ? is there any way around that ?

hi vl400 thanks for the reply..
i was talking to a mate of a mate he was saying as i want to use the key.turn sig, light switch and dash .. to go the hole under dash loom ecu/bcm and full motor loom / under hood loom .. so then i get all the washer, lights, fuse set up..
also he said something about the tune for the supercharged v6s..
the Qs...
the hole wire looms sound like the best way to go ?? or like vl400 said find a VR auto loom and PCM to get a MAP based setup
can i put the supercharged tune on the vx ecu ?? this would be ok with a turbo ?
is there a kit/ software you guys can point me at that will let me turn off airbag, abs and tune on the fly with a laptop ? can this be done with the vx ecu ?
thanks dwayne
