hey guys.
im doing a hilux conversion with a VN/VP 304 v8
im wondering how i would go about getting the VSS signal for the ECU ?
im presuming i cant just tap into the standard signal coming out of the factory VSS
if i can, then can i just tap into it in parrellel to the speedo, and hookup a jaycar corrector kit to get the required pulses for the ecu ?
any help would be great.

Re: 808 ECU V8 hilux VSS issue
Welcome
It depends on the factory speed sensor signal. If it is a magnetic reluctor type then it cant be wired direct to the 808, would need to be turned into a square wave type of signal. Hall effect can be wired to the ECU. If the dash has an output that has a squarewave signal out it could be usable (might have a signal for cruise control?).
You will likely have to change the pulse per kilometer value in the ECU or fit a jaycar speedo corrector regardless which way you go. The VN has a divide by 5 circuit in the factory dash that feeds the ECU, it works out to providing 1250 pulses per kilometer to the ECU.

Re: 808 ECU V8 hilux VSS issue
You just need to do some digging on the Toyota side to determine what type of VSS signal is used as VL400 says, it doesn't have to be specific to a Holden conversion.
If it has a hall effect (or possibly optical if its in the dash/speedo) then its square wave and will connect straight up (possibly with PPK changes), if its magnetic then it won't.

what if my toyota pulse rate is different to what the holden ECU wants ?

Can change it in the memcal or if its not too far out use the jaycar speedo corrector kit.

Ring Pat gardner from v6 conversions in Moree and say... Hi Pat, I want to buy one of your speed sensors for my hilux v8 conversion and while your there... send me your wiring harness for the 304 too please. You can thank me later....
