Re: Knock Sensors - using V6 on V8

I just got a VS V8 PCM, with Memcal BSAK 9272 With a filter on it of 1F4160 & wiring harness for knock sensor!

So it looks like VS do use similar to the VR V8 Filters!

Has anyone been able to make up there own as these are expensive buggers to buy!

If you were to use a V8 code based tune without knock board, I guess you'd have to disable all the knock stuff & copy hi & low octane tables & hope no one put's shit fuel in it!

This document will give an idea of the complexity of the knock filter.

you are thinking in late model land... theres no high and low spark tables, thats ecotec era pcm's. all you do is turn off knock sensor DTC and set the EST coolant temp for knock control to 155 deg c

LOL about old school timing tables, goes to show I haven't even looked at the data yet! I just like to be prepared!

LOL about if it pings it pings, but to further that if it pings & too much too often it will inevitably blow a gasket or break a piston etc...

yeah but youve got to be runnin pretty crazy timing to get a 304 (with extractors) to ping. if it has no extractors itll ping only a few degrees above stock.

Yeah I've seen that sort of thing posted before, honestly with my gen3 I tuned it with stock cast exhaust manifolds, & then put some extractors on it & ran it up on the dyno & honestly not 1 bit more power & couldn't chuck any more timing at it!

But going a bit of topic here but I guess it's all sort of related!

Many years ago one of the motoring magazines published a circuit diagram for monitoring knock using a knock board out of a holden memcal some resistors capacitors and transistors with the level of knock being displayed by LED's.

I made one of these but has been lost over the years. I have searched the web for the circuit diagram again without success does any one have a copy of this circuit diagram?

Thanks

The article was in a very early zoom. I will look through the shed over christmas and see if I can find the article. The article was published about 10 years ago.
