geez must have been working hard!!
No matter what the question is, the answer is always more horsepower!

Re: The1's Daily
yeh i reckon, it might have been what killed my old alternator, replaced the brushes on it when it went and smoked them, so id say it cooked it, i replaced the alternator with the bigger bosch 100amp one, so yeh routine maint check alternator temps, if high something is sucking the power. Seat of the pants drove alot better today as well, id imagine it'd be sapping a few hp.

Re: The1's Daily
yeah definately would be .... a few years ago i had an intermittant error with my regulator, the car would just be idling then drop revs for a bit then come back up. eventually i was able to get the multimeter on it when it happened and saw 17v at the battery ..... thats how i worked out it was a screwed reg, but the extra load it put on the motor was massive!

Re: The1's Daily
My friend's vr had a fault reg too and saw around the 15-16 volts and the PCM started to complain about incorrect voltages at the transmission solenoids from memory and jerked (more like slammed) through gears at random making massive thumps.
put an new reg and it was all good again
few years latter he had a auto failure and it was pissing fluid out. Apparently the trany case had a crack all the way through it.
I recon the reg played a role in that.

Re: The1's Daily
awesome to hear that the new battery solved the high running temp of the alternator
Re: The1's Daily
well it's service time again, offically clocked 300,000km now, going to put a new oil spring in. Internals look clean and piston moves freely in the bore so can't see any problems, old spring seems ok. Will post back up once ive gone for a run.

Re: The1's Daily
well no change with the pressure, idle about 65, anything off idle is around 73, WOT is 80. Thinking it's just the oil im using?
Also of note i picked up a free plenum to play with, did small porting and polished it up. Found in the logs about 100hz pickup @ 5800rpm and peak cylair went from 660 to 679, so there is some flow gains by polishing even with N/A
Did a simple test by using linemarking chalk dust and vaccum cleaner to pull it through a port with rest blocked off, you can see the accumulated dust vs polished. cleaned up all the castings I left the original thick wall between 3-2 5-4 as these intake after each other.
I only used $10 bits from bunnings, the grinding wheels were good for getting it started, but overall surprisingly the wire brush wheels worked even better at smoothing than 60grit flap wheels do. Here's my WOT atm.

Re: The1's Daily
Bugger about oil pressure not changing, but nothing too bad to worry about anyway!
Thats pretty cool & interesting about the polishing, nice work for a N/a... can't wait to see the results on the dyno!
