12P Tune for 202 HX Ute

Post by chello1961 »

Hi guys I am newbie to this forum and am about to embark on fitting an efi 202 into my HX Ute. I have been reading several posts here and anywhere else I can to research the tuning aspect of an 808 ecu and was hoping someone can help with a tune to suit. I have purchased a UV eraser and am purchasing an eprom programmer and was wanting to know exactly what else I need to be able to convert the ecu to be able to do the tune. I have all the vehicle hardware and have modified the distributor to Camira ign module as per the directions on this site (great instructions and easy to do).
The specs of my engine are as follows.
Black 202 efi bored .040"
Standard cam
1.65 ratio V8 roller rockers
block decked .010"
Head ported and flowed, polished combustion chambers, Stainless 1.74 intake and 1.55 exhaust valves and competition springs
Comp ratio 10.5:1
Standard efi intake manifold (will be making a twin throttle-body manifold soon)
Bosch injectors from 4.0l ford.
Running through standard efi trimatic
with 3.55 ratio rear and 14" rims
Would appreciate any help guys.

If your wanting to tune it yourself using the eprom programmer and UV eraser to burn bins (you will need a larger EPROM if running 12P on a 808) can get really good results, it just takes longer. For RT tuning and logging you can use..
NVRAM - https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=167
USB Comms - https://pcmhacking.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=164

There is a base 202 12P cal file that should get you started .. https://pcmhacking.net/forums/view ... ?f=7&t=375

A wideband is also recommended and should be on your shopping list.

Hi chello1961,
The first thing i would be doing is fitting a bigger cam or lower the comp ratio because a standard cam with 10.5:1 is going to cause pinging problems.
But if you pull the timing back to stop it you are going to see alot of power loss.

This is just a suggestion and by no means have to follow it.
Hope this conversion works out for you.
Regards mike.

i don't agree with that ? aslong as the timing it not needed to be retarded too much it shouldn't matter ?

Thanks Guys I am going to try the standard cam first, but do have a powerboss cs1277 cam if I need it in the current motor I am running. I will also be going to a turbo (t3) at a later date and will need a tune for that one later so I was thinking about doing a couple of tunes on a couple of memcals so I can swap them when I fit the turbo. I am looking at a moates eprom and adapter on ebay, are these ok to use and are the eproms large enough for what I want to do?
